November 11, 200718 yr I have been trying forever to figure this out, and now I'm finally getting the hang of it I think after figuring out a really old tutorial.http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k282/Ben...cs/aztecing.jpghttp://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k282/Ben...s/aztecing2.jpgThere are just so many ways to do things, and both the skill of creating textures, and the skill of mapping them. But, you really can't paint something till you know how you are going to use it as a texture. The old chicken and the egg almost. =)Now I can really go back and do some even nicer textures for my Enterprise. :D
November 13, 200718 yr I have learned so much more about properly texturing by going through this exercise. In fact, it has made me realize a way to be able to texture vs. cut the windows, and still properly limit emissive bloom!http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k282/Ben...cs/Aztec_02.jpgAnyway, this has nothing to do with in-game, but is just an experimental render. It is looking a lot more real (at least to me), although it is certainly not cannon. All trekkies are invited to tell me what they think.Next I need to learn how to "weather" it in a way that replicates the weathering on the studio model complete with streaking and darker areas. If anyone has any tips or links to tutorials feel free to share.Later I'm going to experiment with video post effects.
November 15, 200718 yr Plugin? Hahahaha. No my friend, that is about 18 hours of solid work with Illustrator, Photoshop, & Max! Of course it can be done faster once you know what you are doing and if you are willing to be a wee bit less precise. You can find some old tutorials here: http://discovery.scifi-art.com/Have fun.
