May 23, 200224 yr OOPS you are right of course Arno Had FSDS on my mind and we do useAirport 2.6 and other tools to re-do our airports sorry if I confusedanybody. Dan

Or are you using a different program (Terrabuilder) to do this?- Martin My site: www.martinstrong.com/FS_Project.htm
May 24, 200224 yr Really like the way you done your airport... - Looks a whole lot better than the one I'm working on...I gave up trying to use gmax to do ground stuff, so am using airport to do all the ground stuff, and gmax to do everything else :-) - The only thing I wish is that all the autogen scenery hadn't disappeared around the airport...Here a little piccie, it not as good as yours, but hey it another airport :-)http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~simpy/images/airport.jpg
May 24, 200224 yr Hi"Wanderer" It doesn't look that "bad" to me and like I posted above it's mostly a matter of good textures and mapping them well as far as the models go they are the easy part it's the time spent in Photo Shop that really pays off big time in getting a good lookingairport so please keep it up and post when you are finished. Dan P.S nice job on the rounded taxiways!
May 24, 200224 yr Glad you like the taxiways.. - I sorta cheated a little bit.. - I used the taxiway command in airport to lay down a basic taxiway, and then created polygons the same colour on the corner bits to make them more rounded...I not got lights in mine as you have in yours, and if you did yours in gmax then you one hell of a designer... :-)I'm currently designing an airbridge, but from the looks of it I am going to have to have 3 different sizes as I cannot seem to make one size fit all aircraft :-)As you say, the textures really make the design of the buildings really stand out.. - I cannot say my designing skills are very good... - for most things I have taken textures from other places and altered them to suit my own needs within Paint Shop Pro... - Also in some instances I just repeated the same textures to get what I wanted as you can see by the part of the terminal below...http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~simpy/pic022.jpghttp://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~simpy/pic023.jpgRegards - John...
May 24, 200224 yr Hi John looks great to me one thing you might try to sharpen up your textures on the terminal would be to slice the polly(s) on the front side of your terminal and then re-map 'em. As for our textures no they are all done in photo shop first by Jim Kanold mostly and then I mapp them to each mesh. I take a lot of time on each model when I am mapping(there are many ways to map a texture so it will show well). It helps to read up on things like mip mapping so one has a basic understanding of how it works and it's short commings as well. But your airport is look fine so far. Dan P.S thanks for the comments!
May 24, 200224 yr Thanks for the comments, Yes, I already have sliced up the terminal quite a lot already..I am pretty sure the reason why the textures look blury is because of the size of the textures I am using.. - You see, when I started out, I thought I would be smart (trying to keep frame rates up as much as I could) so only made one bitmap for day and one bitmap for night (1024x1024 each) and have put all the textures I am using for buildings into that one bitmap..While the textures look reasonably good in the bitmap, I think because they are so small it distorts when I map them... (From memory the texture for each slice of the main terminal is 128x128)At this late stage in things I don't know wether to give up on the idea of just 1 bitmap of 1024x1024, or start all over again and have separate bitmaps for each individual texture... :-(I have however kept the frame rates amazingly good... for the whole of the airport the frame rates don't even drop 1fps as far as I can tell :-)Regards - John...
