September 1, 200322 yr Hope these simple questions don't offend anyone. I like flying around Hawaii but it would be much nicer if there were frequent palm tree groves and occasional resorts present. 1. Why are most add ons based around airports? Is it possible to take palm tree bgl's and add them to a coast line away from an airport.2. What programs are available to place these bgl's?3. How hard would it be to populate the islands with these bgls?4. It must be hard because there are not too many sceneries available for download. Not even payware. Why aren't there more payware sceneries. It seems to me that Microsoft could make some money by selling these addons for different states.5. Why is it that addon scenery doesn't load until you are relatively close, yet autogen is visible from farther away? After flying around addons like Aloha Village (which unfortunately keeps freezing in FS2004), other areas look sparse. Imagine the whole state of Hawaii filled with scenery of this nature. Is there a website that will answer some of these questions. Thanks for your time.

Is it>possible to take palm tree bgl's and add them to a coast line>away from an airport. Most sceneries are for airports because that are the places where you take of and land and thus fly the lowest. You need the most detail there. But of course you can also make scenery for other places (there are also city sceneries for example).>2. What programs are available to place these bgl's?You could use FSSC (http://www.avsim.com/fssc) or Airport (http://www.airportforwindows.com) to make such BGL files.>3. How hard would it be to populate the islands with these>bgls?Once you have found API macros with the trees you want and you have loaded some sort of backdrop image in the design program it should be relatively easy to place all the trees at the places of the island you want.>4. It seems to me that Microsoft could>make some money by selling these addons for different states.I think there would be a smaller market for selling such products and therefore there are most airport sceneries. But, isn't it more fun to make it yourself and then share it as freeware to the rest of the FS world??>5. Why is it that addon scenery doesn't load until you are>relatively close, yet autogen is visible from farther away? You can determine at which distance the object show when you make the scenery. But when you set the distance too big it will kill your framerates, because too much will be loaded at the same time then. September 2, 200322 yr Author Hello William,You could add a lot of palm trees by placing hundreds (thousands?) of apis using a scenery design program like Flight Simulator Scenery Creator. But, Microsoft provides for this possibility in a much easier fashion (and much better for frame rates.)Simply modify the land class to show ground textures with more palm trees. This is very easy to do, can cover very large areas wthout any problem, and does not add any extra textures that must be loaded, thus preserving frame rates.Try EZ-Land Class by Russell Dirks - very easy to use and quick results. The reason that there is not more scenery available is that there are not enough of us making scenery and the world is a very big place. So, please give it a try and release your work for the benefit of us all.Best regards.Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
