September 10, 200322 yr Hi there!I'm new to scenery design. I'm creating a new scenery for my local airport for FS2002/04, I made the building with Gmax. Now I'm at the stage of creating the ground scenery. Which freeware program do you guys suggest for this purpose? I would like to create my own runways, taxyways and parking area by using my own textures and I was thinking to use Airport 2.60. Is this any good? Thanks !!
September 10, 200322 yr Commercial Member Airport is a good and popular program, as is Derek Leung's FlightSim Scenery Creator (FSSC). I use FSSC but also have been known in the past to utilize Airport. Both have decent interfaces and seem to do approximately the same thing. And of course, both are freeware. September 11, 200322 yr Commercial Member I agree with those suggestions. I am only not sure if they will let you create your own runways with your own textures, as the origional question was. September 12, 200322 yr Hi,Thanks for the answers! Is there any program that allows you at least to use your own textures for the parking area? I have a few aerial shots of the airport I'm going to build and it would be nice to use them for this purpose..Thanks!!
September 12, 200322 yr Commercial Member If you want to use the airphoto directly you can use two methods. Or the mesh scenery way (like MS has done at some of the big default airport). Or you can make a grid of polygons and place the photos on that (I think Architect supports this option, but I have always made it in SCASM manual). So you also use the photo to make a realistic generic asphalt/concrete texture and apply that on polygons you place with a program like Airport of FSSC. September 17, 200322 yr Hi Arno,Thanks for the answer.. I tried with FSSC and it does exactly what I wanted :-)There is only one question: I know that with FSSC you can have the blue lights automatically placed on taxiways sides. I created a taxiway parallel to the main runway, and it's connected to the runway via 4 links. Now, I can get the blue lights on the parallel taxiwya but not on the taxiway links. To create these links I used the funcion "Create Taxiway". Would you suggest to use "Create Poligon" instead and how to place the blue lights in that case? Thanks again
