XML Scenery Library

Recommended Posts

Guest Chief_Parrothead

I am learning how to design in GMAX after several years of .api format macros. One question that I have concers the XML scenery library concept. I have downloaded and read the pdf manual on Arno's Library Creator XML product, and I guess I understand the concept of the scenery library. It makes it easier (i.e. faster) for FS to render scenery objects, right?Question 1 - If you use the scenery library creator, you do not need to run each scenery object through the BGLComp.exe? Run only the .mdl file through the library creator?Question 2 - Where does the resulting .bgl scenery library go in your FS? Does this go in the main scenery file? Sorry if this sounds elementary, but I feel like I am having to learn all of this stuff over again. Thanks for the help.

>Question 1 - If you use the scenery library creator, you do>not need to run each scenery object through the BGLComp.exe? >Run only the .mdl file through the library creator?Library Creator does make an XML file for you that collects all the MDL objects into one BGL. So you do not have to run the XML files GMax made through BGLComp anymore.>Question 2 - Where does the resulting .bgl scenery library go>in your FS? Does this go in the main scenery file? Normally these go into the scenery folder of your project. Only when you have made a library that you plan to use in a lot of sceneries it makes sense to put it in the main folder.

That is what I thought, but in order to place the objects in the scene, you modify the xml file that library creator creates to change the lat/lon etc?

Hi Chief. You don't alter the library... you make a new "placement" XML to place the library object.2 BGLs. One contains the Library Objects. One places those Library objects. That's the "clean" way of doing it.Dick

Yep, Dick is right there. The library XML code does not even contain any coordinates. Just make a second XML file or use a tool like SceneGenX.
