July 22, 200421 yr Can someone please tell me how to get a bitmap image I created in PaintShop into the material editor and then apply that material to an object? I'm going through the GMAX tutorial and its either outdated or I'm missing something. For example, the tutorial says in the Material Editor there should be a list labeled "Scene Materials" but I see no such list. How do I navigate to my bitmap to get it into my project? Please be specific because I am new to gmax.Thank you very much.
July 22, 200421 yr Commercial Member I think the easiest way to apply a texture is to not use the material editor. I usually just use the material navigator, in there I locate the bitmap I want to use and then you can just drag and drop it onto the object. A new material is then created automatically for you. July 22, 200421 yr After your finished with PaintShop, save your image file as something like 256x256 pixels, 24bit color bmp or tga file. select your model in GMAX, click on the material editor icon. Click "new" then answer "standard" for material typeClick on the "map" button at the bottom of the screen (that should expand the mapping assignment locations)Find "diffuse map", click on that You should now see a black square in a tree like structure, click on that black square, you are now able to browse to the directory that has your file you made with Paintshop. Click on that fileNot sure if you have to click "apply" or not here...doing this from work using memory only. Its now assigned, but you may not see it.If you don't click on the blue icon on the editor that makes the material visible on the screen.________________btw you may need to add a uvw mapping modifier to the stack to see the material if your model is beyond the stage of primitive parametric models (they self create uvw coordinates).Bob Bernstein
