Terrain Detail after x minutes

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,I am designing an airport in Cyprus (LCLK) but I face a problem when using my scenery. I load FS2004, go to LCLK and start flying. Everything looks fine like the screenshot below. (don't get tricked by the building's colours - they are not textured yet).http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/105214.jpgAfter a few minutes of flying, WITHOUT changing anything the ground detail turns like the screenshot below.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/105215.jpgI don't know why this is done, but it only happens to my scenery project. If I go to a nearby airport no matter how much time I fly, everything is like the 1st screenshot. :-hmmmDoes anyone have a clue out there? I will appreciate it a lot.ThanksMariosP.S. I use FS9 on Win XP SP2, (same problem with SP1 though) P4 3.0, Geforce 4, FX5200 256DDR.

Hi Arno,I told you many times, and I will keep telling you....you are the BEST!! :-) I reformated my textures from DXT1 to 8 bit and the problem is gone! Just out of curiosity though....why fs9 won't accept dxt1 and accept 8bit (Render to texture is enabled in my settings).Another problem that came up is with roads. I used a black texture with transparency so that only the lines appear on the ground so I can use the road on the apron's surface. However transparency only works if terrain detail is set to None! Land only or Land and Water settings cause a non-transparent road appearing black (have a look at the screens). Any clues? Many Thanks Marios :-waveTerrain Detail: Nonehttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/105266.jpgTerrain Detail: Higher than Nonehttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/105267.jpg

Hi Marios,>I reformated my textures from DXT1 to 8 bit and>the problem is gone! Just out of curiosity though....why fs9>won't accept dxt1 and accept 8bit (Render to texture is>enabled in my settings).Since Fs2002 I have always used DXT1 textures (no 8 bit anymore) and I have never seen this problem. I can't remember the exact conclusion of that thread I refered to, but from what I remember it was quite a complex problem. Where not every solution works for everyone with the problem. So I guess the deeper cause must be something else than the texture type.>Another problem that came up is with roads. I used a black>texture with transparency so that only the lines appear on the>ground so I can use the road on the apron's surface. However>transparency only works if terrain detail is set to None! I never noticed that changing the settings will let them work, so I think there is nothing to solve this.

Hi Arno,No problem...I can live with both issues like that. The most important problem was the blurry textures. Since it is fixed now, the road issue it's not such a big deal....it will remain as a known bug. ;-)Many many thanks Arno,Marios

Pano, You are right...it's the "no Mips" that caused the blurry textures. I just converted them back to DXT1 again with Mips and seems to be ok now. Thanks for the tip ;-)Marios
