Object Placement Tool

Featured Replies

Somewhat nervous about posting this - I'm a total newbie in the scenery area. Anyway, here goes, having discovered the delights of the object placement tool, I've had a jolly time adding stuff to a couple of airports. Have to say, I'm really delighted with the way this works and the effect of just simple additions. The downside to this is that I've noticed that at the two airports I've worked, all of the AI aircraft have gone missing. Of all the aircaft in the area, none at all are parked and I haven't seen any land or take off.Have I done something stupid in my enthusiasm?Bud

Hi,Objects that you add with the Object Placement tool should have no affect on the AI traffic at all.How did you place them, did you compile them into a BGL file in the end?

Arno

If the world should blow itself up, the last audible voice would be that of an expert saying it can't be done.

HiYep, compiled them into a bgl with the SDK compiler and put the resultant file into Addon Scenery/Scenery then refreshed the Library. The objects appeared fine - better than I expected in fact, it's just that at the same time the parked AI a/craft disappeared. Must admit, I was so pleased with the result that I didn't notice at first. It was only when the same thing happened with the second airport I dabbled in that it became apparent that this airport which previously had quite a lot of parked AI planes, had become bereft of such.Bud

Hi Bud,what happens when you remove those compiled files of yours from Addon Sceneryscenery (or deactivate them by renaming them to .bgl.bak) - does the AI traffic return?Like Arno says, I doubt there's a direct connection. Maybe it has something to do with the incompatibility of FS9 and FSX style AI traffic files. Anything you've added or changed in that regard lately?Cheers, Holger

Hello Holger,I did, in fact, remove the .bgl files, and as you may suspect, the AI traffic did not return. I don't touch anything to do with traffic files so I dont think it can be that. I'm afraid I'm in an area I dont really understand but I also hate mysteries and I would dearly like to know what's happened.Bud

Hey HolgerMany thanks for the tip re AI traffic files. Tho' I dont touch 'em myself, I remembered that I had got a couple or so of sceneries for FSX which I checked for traffic files. Went thro' each I found disabling 'em to test the result. Eventually I found one scenery traffic file which, when disabled, returned the AI traffic to the two airports I'd worked on.Even though I dont fully understand, yet, the implications, I'm very grateful for the lead in. Clearly something to look out for for the future.Bud
