Changing Substitution Of Slope Textures?

Recommended Posts

I have asked this before but there may be someone who has a viable answer.I want to either alter the trigger (degrees of angle) that causes an alternate texture to be substituted within a displayed texture. Presently tree textures appear within farm fields on even small slopes. While this might be somewhat tolerable the inserted tree areas are usually some geometric zig-zag pattern that is far from reality. This detracts from the very nice hi-res FSX textures. I would like to either change the degree of slope that causes this alternate texture insertion or change the texture that is inserted. I believe that this function is numerically encoded within the ICLOOKUP.BGL. As far as I can tell the only person who has decoded this BGL, and has offered an altered version, is Arnaud Clerc. Messages to him have gone unanswered. The Microsoft FSX SDK does not mention the word slope except in the context of water polygons. ICLOOKUP is not present at all.The issue is not of sufficient value to encourage me to decode the bgl. Certainly a quick glance at it offers no obvious starting point. Therefore, I thought I might try one more time to see if anyone might have information that would facilitate altering either the trigger (degree of slope) or the texture that is substituted at various slops.Regards,Dick BoleyA PC, an LCD, speakers, CH yoke

Hi Dick.I beleive this is a dead-end for you. The slope texturing is coded in the LCLookup.BGL, and no one has a way to recompile that code, other than trying to hack it with a hex editor.I think Arnaud had a partial understanding of it, but I think he may have faded from the FSX scene, as you have found. With FSX, we lost the ability to have named textures, unless they are added to the terrain.cfg file, so that isn't even a good path for what you want. :(Photoreal would not be affected.Actually, a recent post by Holger could provide a partial solution:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=35414&page=But, of course, this is just a way to trick the sim... just as many of our fixes in the past sim versions are tricks. Not a real solution.Dick
