Aircraft "sticking" when in queue

Recommended Posts

Guest

Has anyone found a workround to the problem of aircraft "sticking" when queueing at the holding point or is it just my problem? This seems to happen at any airport where queuing occurs. Have tried fiddling with the nodes via AFCAD but with no avail.

Its not a problem with the nodes, its a problem with the AI traffic system. If an aircraft waits too long to takeoff it seems to forget to ask for takeoff clearance, and just sits at the hold point or at its last stop point (that last place it stopped to hold for other traffic).Only way ive found to get around this is to move the clock forward a few seconds to force the AI Traffic to reload.http://www.flyjetstream.com/bcards/peter_liddell.gif

The key is to have at least one normal node (before the hold short node) between any aircraft stopped waiting for other aircraft to take off and the hold short node. Watch where the planes get "stuck". Now place a normal taxiway node between there and the hold short node. This has fixed this problem for me so far. Now, occasionally the AI traffic system just "burps", and then indeed resetting traffic is the simplest way to fix this. However, if you just ignore the stuck plane it will disappear after a while.-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Sorry, but the above fixes didn't work for me but I have found one that does. I moved the hold short mode as close to the runway as practicable and it has sorted the problem. It took me six hours of fiddling to sort it though. Thanks for all the replys,Mick

Thanks for the added tip. My fix works when the second and later planes in a queue don't take off; yours works when even the first plane doesn't take off. This is preobably because the hold short node must be close enough to the runway to allow the AI traffic to contact the tower for takeoff.-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

You can also use AFCAD to widen the runway as FS has a specified distance away from the edge of the runway that the aircraft can call for take off clearance. so if u make the runway wider more planes can call ask to take off at once. this is especially good at busy airports.Steven

But this solution is kinda unrealistic. Isn't it? I prefer setting the hold short as near as it must be for FS AI. As far as I know AI System uses a distance of 100 to the runway.Cheers Thomas

Everyone is intitled to their own opinion thomas thats what these forums are(that sounds cheeky but honestly i aint being cheeky ;)) for but i fel that widening the runway with AFCAD(which doesnt effect FS scenery) is better than moving the hold short nodes. When u move the hold short nodes AI Planes taxi over the sceneries hold short points.Steven

Thomas,I'm afraid that in most cases it is the other way round.A lot of accurately designed sceneries have the hold lines very accurately marked, but it is the AI Traffic "engine" which requires aircraft to be even closer to the runway for them to be able to receive a takeoff clearance.Stamatis

Hi,you are right. I was just kidding. The point where you can clearanceis ways to close to the runway. I was looking in the AFD Data, butI can't see no way to adjust this.Thomas
