Uncontrolled airports.....TTOOLS and AFCAD....

Featured Replies

Good morning!!Now that I am hooked on editing and adding to the FS2K world.(See what you have caused!!)Today, my question involves uncontrolled airports, and adding them to the airports.txt file with the required information. I notice that along with the airport ICAO code, there are location coordinates for that airport. Now if some of you have read my previous posts you know that I am working with the islands of the Bahamas. There are quite a few airports uncontrolled and very, very few, actually controlled, two to be exact(MYGF and MYNN).I know I will need to correct the airports layouts with AFCAD that should be the easy part. But, now I want to add some GA and airline aircraft flight plans to these airports. As there is quite a bit of real world activity in the islands. My questions are as follows:1. Where would I get the information to add the uncontrolled airports to the airports.txt file? Location data.2. How will I get these planes to land at these airports if there is no tower? Flight plan info.3. Is there anything I should consider before embarking upon this project?4. How can I thank you for your kind help!!?TEXT ADDED ON EDIT5. Is there any specific AFCAD information or items needed to be added to these airports? If you need further inforamtion, just let me know!!Thank you.http://www.forefrontgrp.com/jayssig.jpg

Check out the AFCAD manual. There is a section on adding ATC to an airport. There must be ATC before there can be AI flights. Then you can add AI flights as usual. If you never tune into the tower frequency yourself you'll never hear it...The airport data can come directly from AFCAD; just double click the runways for runway info, and double click the airport reference point for location information.Hope this helps,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Thanks Tom,Now, Tom, I need to pick your brain. Hey, you asked for it!! :) Overlays!! Ok I need some clarification. Please, please, bare with me!!Now, if I 'OPEN' an airport, hmm...let's say MYNN. (gee that was obvious!!) Now I make some changes to it and 'SAVE' it. That will save the edited airport back into the BGL file right? Now if I want to do an overlay, I would take another step above. I would 'EXPORT' the airport to a text file, right? Then I can rename that text file let's say "1YNN". Make some additional changes, say, removing all spaces except some cargo parking to make flight plans for say FEDEX or UPS aircraft. Then I 'SAVE' the "1YNN" file to FS2K2.Would those steps constitute an airport overlay? Or have I missed something. I have read the documentation, but, I want to be absolutely sure. And thank you again for your very kind help!!http://www.forefrontgrp.com/jayssig.jpg"There is an art . . . to flying. Sorry, but I will not "bare" with you - too embarrassing! However, I will bear with you... :) Glad to help, BTW.Yes, you have the steps to make an overlay correct. Just follow ALL the steps listed in the manual. I also make sure that each overlay uses it's own runway (more than one overlay using a single runway will increase incorrect ATC behavior). Finally, I also move the airport reference point for the original airport and the overlay to the middle of it's own runway. This will give proper taxi behavior after AI arrivals. How to do that is detailed in the post Getting Overlay Arrivals to Park Correctly. Just do a search for Getting. Or, just wait for AFCAD 1.2 and you can drag it with the mouse (shouldn't be long now, I hope!).Also, don't forget to change your FEDEX and UPS flight plans to depart and arrive from 1YNN.Hope this helps,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___
