March 25, 200323 yr I'm currious. Just what all is involved in designing an aircraft for fly? Does one need to be a programmer or are there existing utilities to aide in designing one? I may like to try my hand at it.:)Blake
March 25, 200323 yr Hi Blake,Well at first you don't have to be a programmer at all. To design an aircraft for FLY! II you need a 3D modeling program like 3D Studio MAX.... or Truespace from Calligari. Further more you need a decent paintprogram, Paintshop will do the trick it's easy to work with and you have enough capabilities!Jean Sabatier has made some tutorials about making planes for FLY He used 3D Studio for reference you can find his tutorials on www.simvol.org under the FLY section. I'am also using 3D studio, it's hard to understand it in the beginning but when you read some books you will get better in it! Good luck, Feel free to post on the forums when you got stuck or have any questions. We always welcome new designers ;)
July 17, 200322 yr I have been to the 3d studio max site and it appears to be a rather expensive program. Since the only thing I would purchase it for is designing presently unavailable freeware aircraft for FlyII is there a less expensive alternative that you know about. I am quite sure that I would never spend a few grand for this purpose.Zane Dr Zane Gard Sr Staff Reviewer AVSIM Private Pilot ASEL since 1986 IFR 2010 AOPA 00915027 American Mensa 100314888
July 18, 200322 yr ZaneThere's much cheaper option, Truespace!I believe there's an older version available for free on their site. There's also a freeware program called Zmodeller; I know people use it for static models, not sure about planes though.Any search engine should find them for you.Colin
