Installing new AC, should I overwrite existing Guages?.

Okay, I have really screwed my FS2k2 files up. I have installed MANY new A/C and chose to overwrite existing guages with the new ones and now it's completely unstable. So should I not overwrite guage files? I just assumed that the new guages would be compatible. How are you guys getting past this? I have atleast 100 AC installed and will now have to reinstall everything form scratch to get it back to a stable condition. This reinstalling is not fun so I want to get it right this time. Thanks for your time.

Hi, sorry to hear about your problem. What I do is if I already have the gauge then I do not install it because I know it works correctly. Any new gauges are installed.Hope this helps,Ed

What you can do Brad is create other folders under the gauges folder for the add-on aircraft and put their gauges in the respective folders.The only downside is this requires editing the panel.cfg file so that it looks in the correct place for the gauges.As an example lets say you downloaded an add-on Concorde and one of the gauges it was going to overwrite was 'concvis.gau'Create a foldered named 'Concorde' under the main Gauges folder.Place 'concvis.gau' in this folder.Go to the 'panel.cfg' file and find a line similar to'gauge01=concvis, 619, 251, 21, 11'Change that line to read 'gauge01=concordeconcvis, 619, 251, 21, 11'The aircraft and panel should display correctly. If you get it wrong either the aircraft won't show in your aircraft list or the panel won't show; just check that your modification is correct.The bigest problem is noting down which gauges are trying to replace existing ones.Hope this helps.

Brad,Vulcan is right on the money!One of the problems is that while a gauge wants to overwrite an existing gauge, it may well have been 're-scaled' by the panel author to fit his aircraft's panel...If you overwrite it, you will of course finish up with odd looking panels in other aircraft calling upon that gauge later!It is better to say NO to overwrite, because when you view the model's panel, if the gauge is TOO BIG or TOO SMALL you can always edit the panel or alias it to a known stock panel!
