Minimizing hard drive access?

Recommended Posts

Guest

I notice that either a) after flying for a while, or :( starting off in a mountainous area, my hard drive is constantly accessing.Any thoughts on ways to minimize this? It's what seems to be causing stutters.BTW, with almost everything turned up (and full autogen) I generally get really smooth flying...Andrew

Yes definitely,Buy more RAM. =) 512MB should do the trick. That't what I have and when I'm flying MSFS I don't hear my HD's.How much RAM you got? OS?Cheers,Eric

Hi Eric,Thanks!Win 98, Dell Dimension XPS T500 w/ a 1.2 Tualatin upgrade, Diamond Viper 770 Ultra 32 vid card, but only (cough) 128 ram...Well, at least it's a cheap fix. Either that and/or a new vid card I suppose.Andrew>Yes definitely, >>Buy more RAM. =) >>512MB should do the trick. Guest SD Sim

Hi Andrew,Eric is correct - buy more RAM. If you like the sim performance before it accesses your HD, then your current card should be fine.

It's awesome - for whatever reason I didn't expect as much of a sheer performace jump as I got - skepticism, I guess. But installation was almost as easy as installing stuff in a Mac ;) and programs I had before in which I had to compromise graphics for speed are now like new experiences.Others which I might not have attempted, like Nascar 2002 Season, seem just perfect. And yes, the $179 Ti4200 is exactly what I'm considering.Andrew>Hey - how you liking that powerleap upgrade? >>I have a P3 1GZ ( upgraded from 600 last year ) and am >waiting >for the 1.4 Tualatin Powerleap to come out - gotta ekk out >alittle more out of this computer with that upgrade. >>Yeah - memory would be good for you - and one of those >new cheaper GF4-Ti4200 might be a good bet. >>Myles
