Very Hard Panel Trouble

Recommended Posts

Hey all - I have been racking my brain trying to figure out how in the world to get a particular panel out of another plane's .res file, into another different .res file. How the hel do I do it?All I want to do is this: Get Steve Hess's wonderful Arrow panel (looks like the Dreamfleet one), into the default Arrow. That's all. And I'm about ready to die trying, using things like Resviewer and Cockpit Designer. I am a MSFS guy, and usually a task like this is SO DANG easy in the Microsoft one...Maybe someone could be my hero, and do it for me? :-)Thanks,Frustrated Kyle

Hi Kyle,I haven't read Steve's "readme" for that particular aircraft lately; but I think he has asked that it not be tampered with(use cockpit in another aircraft). Due to an agreement between he and Dreamfleet. To your question: You'll need Gideon's Cockpit Designer. It should be here at Avsim's library. It has a real good help file in htm format.JimB

Jim,That probably only refers to any RELEASED planes. I don't see any reason why Kyle can't transfer the panel for his own private use....provided that he knows how to do it !Chris Low.

I believe it's better to start with the res containing the panel and add the other aircraft to it. In other words, start with a copy of the Cessna and rename it to what you want it to become. Then you replace the pertinent visual models and the flight dynamics. But don't upload it :-)Hans Petter

Kyle,H-P is correct. The cockpit layout and instruments are not 'transportable' i.e. they are locked-in to the resfile. You CAN edit them using Cockpit Designer however the resfile MUST have the original LGS name or you'll end-up with an uneditable cockpit :-(The simplest way is to select the aircraft that has the cockpit you like and copy the textures, voices (if required) and 3D models across. You do this by exporting them from the resfile using Resviewer and then using Resviewer again to import them into your desired aircraft. This way, you could have one person's cockpit, another's textures and someone else's callsign! The flight model can also be copied out too but requires some fiddling. DON'T be tempted to copy all resources after 2130 across either, as some cockpit resources are within this range :-eekIf this is all too much, we'll take you step-by-step through it ;)Just tell us which panel/aircraft etc you want and I'll (or someone) tell you how I'd do it :-waveRegards,**************Jonathan Point**************"I'd rather be down here wishing I was up there than up there wishing I was down here"
