KPGM Radio Tower, Los Altos Hills, California

Recommended Posts

Does anyone here have any pictures or information regarding a radio tower in the Los Altos Hills, just south of Palo Alto, California ? I have a map that lists this as KPGM, but tracking down any photos or info of this on the internet is proving to be extremely difficult.Do any FU3 users live anywhere near that location ? If so, does this radio tower still exist ? How tall is it ? What type of tower is it ?Any information would be appreciated.Chris Low.

Hi Chris'Doesn't address your radio tower question, but go here for I think some of the best images of Palo Alto Airport and near surroundings. Detailed landing and departure hi-res color photo's along with airport layout.Note the towers(power lines I suppose?) on the east of airport. You should e-mail the fella; he'd certainly know the answer to your question. A bonus would be he'd become interested in Flt3, buy a copy, and post here.http://www.dr-amy.com/rich/flying/kpao.htmlhttp://dr-amy.com/rich/Airport info:http://www.wvfc.org/pao.htmlRadio station info:http://www.tvradioworld.com/region1/ca/radio.asp?m=sjohttp://www.sanjose.com/nightlife/webradio.shtmlMore Palto Alto general area scenic photo's:http://www.abag.ca.gov/bayarea/baytrail/vt...lto/Btpalto.htmJimB

Chris,I did a little searching and came up with three stations in the area south of Palo Alto. Call signs from older maps are unreliable as they change so frequently. Also, call signs are duplicated where there is no possibility of overlapping signals, so the same one can be used more than once. The definitive answer would be in the US government's database of aviation obstacles, but that is a pricey product (National Aeronatical Charting Office - Digital Obstacle File). :-grr The three stations I found are described at the following three web pages. Try as I might, I could not find tower data for the third one - height, etc.;( http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/info?...KFJC&service=FMhttp://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/info?...KFFG&service=FMhttp://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/info?...KNTS&service=AMEach has a website, and you might be able to get more information that way. Finally there is a website showing all radio stations within listening range of Palo Alto here:http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/locat...&dx=0&sort=FreqI hope this helps you find what you want - Seadog

Jim,Thanks for the information. That Palo Alto airport site is nice, and it clearly shows certain features (like airport buildings and powerlines). The DRG map that I have of this area indicates that there is a radio tower right next to the runway, and I believe that I can just see this in the photos. Obviously, it is rather small. You can see a small circle to the right of runway 31, and I suspect that the radio tower is located here.Chris Low.

There is no sign of KPGM, which makes me wonder whether it still exists.Chris Low.
