Work on Birmingham

Recommended Posts

Guest R_Driscoll

I am still trying to work out a way to upload this, but for the moment, here's some updates on Birmingham.I have made about 15 of the main buildings. The date is frozen at 2000 (the date of the ground scenery itself) so you won't see the bullbar on the bullring. The boats may take some explaining - there are waterways and canal systems through Birmingham, which run right up to the hotels shown here (not that I'm an expert on Birmingham - this is from looking at pictures). I haven't done complete nightlighting, there is some but many buildings are still dark at night. Also I have imported buildings from other areas, for example there is a Telecom BT tower, but rather than rebuild it I have simple used the London BT tower. I guess I'm not a purist, because it takes too long! I have redone the airport, but not extensively, just modifying and adding to what I found there, but I'm not sure who made the original Birmingham airport, so I've been scared to change it too much! Probably the original author is agtim. If so, I have lots of Birmingham airport pics and could do a detailed job on this one - will I do that or leave it as is? But the cityscape gives you a local area to fly to and look around so adds to the overall scenery, and that might be enough.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/155778.jpgConstruction by nighthttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/155779.jpgWarehousing on outskirtshttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/155780.jpgThe Hyatt and Crown Plaza, with boatshttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/155781.jpgSome sort of festival theatre, BT tower, soccer ground in background. Many different people made the models seen here.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/155785.jpgA railway line (many actually) comes into the city centre near the famous bullring (the cylindrical building). I have just made a long viaduct for this (but not shown in the picture) similar to the one at LCA but much higher polygon count - the trusses are more detailed (brick archways).Enjoy the preview, and I hope to get this out soon. Thanks Jon, I got your offer of help and will be in touch. Robert.

Wow, there's a serious amount of work evident in those screenshots, Robert. I particularly like that building with the reflection on it. Very nice.I guess model building is something that you Australians do whilst you wait for the snow to thaw outside :-lolChris Low.

Just sthat sorta wet, slushy, snowy type... Made for an interesting drive home :-rollAnd Rob, I need to get my UKS up to scratch! It's still set up as you put on my HD ages ago. Since then, I think there have been some new developments ;-)Regards,**************Jonathan Point**************"I'd rather be down here wishing I was up there than up there wishing I was down here"
