October 7, 200223 yr Hello John and crew, I realize that this is probably way too late for V3 but I thought I would give it a try anyway. One of the features I DO MISS is an aural callout of altitude by the co-pilot when you are in the ILS glidespath. Wouldn't it be a great idea, for me at least, to have our copilot read out altitude increments as we approach 500 feet and additional readouts below. This way we wouldn't have to try to scan the altimeter as our eyes are glued to the aircraft speed and aircraft alighnment especially once we shut the AP off. It sure would be a great feature. Thanks
October 7, 200223 yr Commercial Member we tried that long, long ago.it was never right. no matter how much i tried to get it to be early, so it would be right on, never happened.same for v-speeds. it was never rightmaybe flight deck companion does this JD Read my blog
October 8, 200223 yr You never had altitude callouts - just speed callouts. The real deal is that these are not ATC functions, and therefore not RC's job. You have been far more concentrated on making RC as real as real gets. ;-)Blais, There are some good gauges (like tue FPDA Airbus/Boeing callouts), and add-ons hte FDC that JD mentioned. I have the callout guages on my advancd panels.
October 8, 200223 yr Hello John and the group, Gee, I didn't expect an answer like the one you gave John. You really surprised me. Even FSFS (Flight Shop) back in the days of FS5 did a darn good job performing that task as well as running the adventure. It worked very well. ProFlight98 allowed for an addition of a canned ADV module that you could attach to the ProFlight98 Flightplan and ProFlight98 used APLC also. Would V3 allow this possibility of adding a canned module? We could write and compile the module/s ourselves. I really am surprised by your answer though. It seems like you just threw in the towel. I do hope you folks reconsider.Regards
October 8, 200223 yr Commercial Member like scott said, i could spend my time, tweaking this, and tweaking that, and adding a fudge factor here, and subtracting a fudge factor here, or i could add alternate airports and making rcv3 stellar.i chose the latter. other people, who have other expertise's can work on the cockpit component of flight simulator ;-) JD Read my blog
October 8, 200223 yr Blais,The add-in module for PF98 was by Dave Marsh, the author of Flight Deck Companion - whch you can purchase now without having any ATC program.Adventures had a direct link to FS. MS has not given that provision now, so everything needs FSUIPC, which causes some delay - especially when programs like RC are processing megabytes of data coming from FS, weather programs, FSUIPC translations, and ATC info processed in RC itself.Doing speed and altitude callouts is not an ATC process, especially when there are other gauges and programs available, and would only add more processing time to RC 0 which isn't it's job.another eason you don't want it in RC - all aircraft don't have callouts. When I'm flying my Arrow, I don't have a co-pilot, nor do I have a GPWS, so if RC gave me callouts, it wouldn't be realistic. This is one reason it was taken out of RC.RC's job is ATC. period. And it does a really good job of that.
October 8, 200223 yr Hello Scott, I did purchase FDC yesterday so I will not belabor the point any further. Done!! I have a 2.53 Ghz machine with 1GB memory but we will evaluate what you say Scott. No, I am aware that not all aircraft have altitude callouts but just about EVERY commercial/business aircraft does. When an aircraft is attempting any CATIII landing it is essential. When the aircraft is attempting a CATIIIc landing it requires AUTOLAND plus what I said above. No pilot would attempt a CATIIIc landing without AUTOLAND capabilities. He would have to be crazy. All B747, B757 and B767 have this feature as well as, my guess, any and all commercial aircraft that are qualified and certified to perform a CATIIIc landing. For more information: PS1 is a exceptional 747-400 training program and it is from this program and the FMC User's Guide suggested by Aerowinx that were involved in a truly educational experience in the power of a glass cockpit that modern 747, 757 & 767 aircraft have. An expensive program but a world apart from MSFSxxxx.
