Downwind Vectoring Problem with RC 2.2

Featured Replies

Hello,Using RC2.2 I'm receiving very good approach vectoring overall except for downwind vectors to final. I'm using a heavy jet (PIC767) and I do have the jet aircraft type checked before compiling my RC2 adventure. On approaches in which RC2 deems logical to have a full downwind, base, and final pattern, I'm intially vectored directly to the airport as described in the RC2 manual. At approximately 20 miles out, RC2 vectors me for downwind. Here is my problem at this point: after I'm established on downwind on the assigned heading, RC2 will 'dogleg' me out at about a 45 degree angle away from the airport to ostensibly lengthen my pattern out. It seems that RC expects me to be squared up on downwind much sooner than I am in actuality, making the dogleg out a necessity. This happens all the time with heavy jet approaches in this situation. Is my airspeed too high before I receive the vector to downwind or do I need a tighter turning radius when I'm issued a turn to downwind vector? I'm typically at 210-190kts IAS just prior to this point and turn at about 15 degrees bank angle via the autopilot. I am using FSMeteo and have a destination to adventure lock distance of 60 miles. I also am using the latest version of FSIUPC. Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

if you ever get within 7 miles of the airport, on downwind, i have to take you away from the airport for a bit. this is necessary, otherwise your base leg/intercept will be too rapid fire.are you coming within 7 miles of the airport at any point during your downwind leg?

John,I will check and see, thank you for the prompt response.

Here are my latest findings regarding the 'dogleg' vectors you are giving me: Initial pattern speed = 180kts IAS Autopilot Bank Angle immediated initiated at downwind vector = 25'I am cutting a very tight, low speed turn at the time of the first downwind vector but am still getting doglegged out at 45 degrees when established on downwind. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

maybe you can capture this event, on the gps display, capture the image, and send me the image. maybe if i "saw" what was happening, it would make sense.maybe two gps screen captures, one when you turn downwind, and one after you get dog-legged
