October 25, 200223 yr Hi All,I've been trying out the samples and will definitely purchase v3 when it comes out. My question concerns taxiing to your assigned departure runway. In the big airports, how the heck do you even FIND your runway? The default FS 2002 airports don't have taxiway signs. If you're starting from the gate at a big airport like O'Hare or Atlanta, it's a bit confusing finding your way. One of the things I really like about Flight Unlimited 2 and 3 is you'll get instructions like "United839 heavy, taxi to runway 8 right via Charlie, Echo, Lima. Hold short runway 8 left". And there are taxiway signs. But FS2002 has nothing similar that I've found.Thoughts?BTW, does RC see where you are on the ground and yell at you if you're not on the right taxiway/departure runway? Thanks,Craig
October 25, 200223 yr ). You can view it in a window or full screen. Locate your runway on the map and head toward it.Radar Contact does not see other aircraft on the ground in either version 2.2 or the upcoming V3. However V3 does see other aircraft once you are in the air and will give you appropriate traffic calls.Version 2.2 does not see traffic in the air or on the ground._________________Rick [email protected] SupportJDT LLC
October 28, 200223 yr Hi Craig,Rick has mentioned one option, here are some others, but all of them rely on you beings able to read a map1)Use Airport Chart Viewer [Freeware] (V2.5 allows printing)2)Use FSNavigator [shareware] (4.6 is latest version)-zoom in to the airport and then print map-this will show your position (if selected),taxiways and other items, the centre of the airport will be on a grey background.I prefer this for flightplanning but I don't use it for taxiway charts.3)Use Flight Manager [shareware] zoom in to the airport and then print map-this will show your position (if selected),taxiways and buildings.I prefer this but I don't use it for flightplanning.4)Use Simplate/Simchart (both commercial)Hope this helps, the choice is yours
November 18, 200223 yr Hi Rick - guess i'm a bit late reading this, but i have to ask :-) With "Radar Contact does not see other aircraft", do you mean that it just not recognize the presense of the AI planes - or will the planes be missing, so the airport is empty. It's probably a stupid question, but as i'm trying to convince people, who are mad about the AI planes, to get Radar Contact, i just want to be sure i don't get anything wrong! :-)
November 18, 200223 yr Commercial Member let me "see" if i can help :-lolAI planes will be everywhere when you are flying version 3. in the air and on the ground.when you are in the air, rc "sees" (prgramatically speaking), and if any of them get too close, a traffic advisory will be issued to one or both aircraft. there will be no vectors (the reason is explained elsewhere)when you are on the ground, the ai planes will marching to a different controller (MS ATC). since i can't control them, i can't do much with them. you will be told to "taxi to runway xx, and hold short, contact tower on xxx.xx". if you have to follow a line of planes to get there, so be it. when it is your turn, and your holding short, call tower.since no one is in front of you, tower will clear you onto the runway, and clear you for takeoff.hope this helps clear things up. November 18, 200223 yr Hehe - thank's JD. :-lol I don't really care that much about the AI planes - i'm more interested in the flying, but when i have to try and convince people about RC, the first thing they ask about is "how with the AI planes", so i just want to be sure not to make any mistake.. ;-)Btw. I did ask that question in another message, but perhaps it kind of "drowned". I can see that the new version not fully supply VFR flights. Does it mean that one have to be creative, if one wants to land in e.g. a lake in an amphibian plane or will it be possible? Just the thought of having to involve MS ATC, makes my hair turn grey.. :-lol
November 19, 200223 yr Commercial Member off the top of my head, i guess you could ask for a visual approach.are there approach plates for lakes? JD Read my blog
November 19, 200223 yr Maybe that was a solution. It's just as it is today, you should not divert to much from the course, before an angry man will lecture you!! :-LOLI don't think there is - you just land as you please.. :-)
November 19, 200223 yr >off the top of my head, i guess you could ask for a visual >approach. >>are there approach plates for lakes? There is an NDB-B here in Maine at M57 (Rangeley Lake Seaplane Base) which is water landing. Not very common I suspect.
November 19, 200223 yr Commercial Member in version 3, i'm guessing m57 doesn't have a approach controller ;-) or tower ;-) or ground :-lolat 60 miles from m57, center will ask you if you have the weather and what approach you want.you say you have the weather, and you would like the ndb approach.center will grant it, and you fly it. it's a beautiful thing! November 19, 200223 yr Actually, that's the Center/Tower/Ground routine. If m57 is fully uncontrolled (it is, I just checked), the IAP option becomes available at 60m, but we get no prompting. Only in CTG routines will we be asked if we have the wx etc... either way, it'll work.Doug
