RC wtih nonMS autopilot

Featured Replies

Just curious if there's any update to include Otto being able to handle non-MS autopilots or if someone in the freeware community is working on it? For those real long missions, I'd like to just hand over the PIC 767 to Otto and go for a run or such without getting in trouble, lol.Lobaeux

Lobaeux,My best suggestion is to send a request to the PIC team and ask them if they would read the MS autopilot variables and set their AP accordingly.

Woosh!! Scott, that just went right over my head, but what I think you're saying is it's not RC that could do it, it would be aircraft specific, ie. PIC and DF would have to change their settings, and not RC, eh? I was just wondering if there was some .dll or module or something that would allow RC control both PIC and DF.Oh, well, thanks.Lobaeux

Lobaeux,Having worked with the PIC team during beta testing, I will tell you that there NO chance they will work on the concept of using any of the MS autopilot variables. However your point is a little confusing to me. The PIC autopilot uses the 767 FMC to get its directions. I have hundreds of hours in the PIC 767 doing my test with them and then with the Radar Contact team. Once you have reached your cruise altitude, there is NO need to have anyone inputing into the autopilot other than the PIC 767 via the FMC. This is also true for the PSS autopilot that is guided by the FMC. That is how it is done in real life.Otto cannot do anything that the FMC does do. If you set up your route correctly in the FMC it will fly you where every you want even if you are not setting in front to the monitor. I fly KORD TO EGGL often and I can assure you I am not sitting there all those hours watching the panel (grin). If you have a particular reqeust, please post it and I will try to work with you to get it resolved.CheersBob Johnson

I think that's what I'm going to have to do, is fly it up to final cruise, then set LNAV, and then take a more active part once we get ready to descend.I was really looking for Otto to handle changes in altitude that RC gives you, up to final cruise altitude and any heading changes for traffic, although once I noticed I was given a heading change for traffic, didn't follow it, and was told minutes later to resume own nav and nothing came of it. Not a big problem I guess.BTW, put RC on the laptop, starte WideFS, put the laptop to my right, now the slow stuttering speech is gone, and it sounds like Otto's really talking to my right, in the left seat. This hobby just keeps getting better and better.Lobaeux
