December 14, 200223 yr I left an earlier message re: no radar vectors for an ILS approach to London CYXU departing Toronto City Airport CYTZ.I believe the reason I did not get vectored is due to the airport not serviced with an approach.I have checked the manual and have flown the IFR route several times and can not see where I can request an ILS approach to London CYXU.What is happening I am handed back the plane approx. 30 to 40 miles from my destination and have to fly the ILS approach to Rwy 15 using my charts which I don't have LOL.In real life arrival aircraft can get vectored for the ILS approach.Any assistance appreciated.Kenny G.
December 14, 200223 yr Hi Kenny,By default RC does not vector to the ILS final approach course if there is no approach control. Most centers do not have video maps that display final approach courses, and without that they cannot vector you to a final approach intercept. There are exceptions of course, but as a rule, Center Controllers do not vector to finals. Larryhttp://www.jdtllc.com/images/RCbeta.jpg
December 14, 200223 yr Author Thanks Larry for the reply. If I have this correct Centre will direct me to the airport, but I then have to set up for my ILS approach using my own navigation.London has a VOR next time I will include this in the flight plan which should make it a little easier.Kenny G.
December 14, 200223 yr I think they call this "flight planning." :)Sidney Schwartz [KPDX]Horizon Flights--flight plans and scenery for FS2002http://sidneyschwartz.homestead.com/index.html
December 15, 200223 yr Ken,Yes. Center can get you to within 4 miles of the airport then you're on your own. 4 miles is usually okay in 2K2 to see the airport, although I have to admit that sometimes even that close I can't see it. This is when I depend on the charts or FSNav.If I fly into an airport where there's no APC, I usually have a VOR fix for final, either for an ILS or visual.
December 15, 200223 yr Author Thanks everyone for the excellent support. I understand now if no approach control, use IAP and set and select the appropriate approach.Happy Holidays Kenny G.
