RC3 & ActiveSky

Featured Replies

Just wondering how the 2 programs are working together before I decide to purchase ActiveSky. Any comments appreciated.

Don't have my copy of RC yet :-( But fellow ActiveSky Beta testers had these working together just fine, a couple had minor issues. For best performance use ActiveSky on a second pc if possible.Hope this helps. Really great piece of software btw!

They work great together, the only issue at the moment is that you can't use the FlightWatch radio of ActiveSky because RC is exclusively using the AdvDisplay window. But as far as I know the guys at ActiveSky are working on their own voice output of the FlighWatch. And besides that, ActiveSky is terrific, I can only recommend it ...Dirk

Yeah, it's bummer not being able to use Flightwatch, in fact, I always seem to have small differences between what Activesky and RC are telling me. Nothing major, but sometimes they're a little off on altimeter settings.Lobaeux

ActiveSky wxRE does work well with RCV3, except for 2 instances.1> The alternate airport is not automatically entered into the locked airport feature when the user chooses the alternate after a missed approach, whereas the primary destination airport is automatically entered.2> When first calling for weather on approach, the RCV3 winds and temp/dew point report is for the current altitude you are flying at, not for the destination. When I compare the report on wxRE, it shows that the destination weather is locked in. Later, when on final the winds are correctly reported by the tower. So there is a problem with communication between wxRE and RCV3.

both are known issues.1) will be fixed in the next version of active sky and a point release of rc2) that has been reported by our beta testers, and we are looking at it

damn...that's the kind of service (by both developers) that keeps us all happy! Thanks for the dedication and hard work.Brad Dykes

Hi JD,I have some observations on point #2. I was playing around with aloft winds and surface winds today and noticed that when enroute, the surface reports use the aloft winds as well. I took off from KORD and climbed to 13000 ft, with RCv3 and Active Sky active on a different computer than FS via WideFS. Winds aloft were 38 kts. Tuned Meigs atis and the report had correct sky conditions but aloft winds. Next, I restarted the flight with FS Meteo vice Active Sky. This time at 13k ft, the Meigs Atis reported the correct surface winds (6kts) when the aloft was showing 38. I posted these observations to Active Sky forum as well. Thanks for your excellent product and support.Kyle
