Lack of Chatter

Featured Replies

Just completed my first flight with RC3 from KSTL-KDFW and am very impressed. Had a strange loss of control during the cruise where the a/c deviated from normal flight to the extreme ! Seemed a good time to call a full emergency and request divert to the nearest suitable airport, in this case KFSM RC3 handled this superbly I must say. Fortunately my control problems sorted themselves out ( POSky B763 with PIC panel ) and a normal ILS landing was uneventfull. One question though re RC3 - I have the 'chatter' set to max, but didn't hear a thing apart from a couple of other a/c I was vectored away from. Surely I should be hearing more ? I also have 'play pilot waves' selected. If I tune FS ATC on the second box, I can hear all that OK so I'm a bit confused ! For what it's worth, my system is Win ME, 1 gig processor, 256k RAM, 32k 3D card. Any help appreciated. Cheers, Ade

did you do a full install or a minimum install?

I am experiencing the same problem. What happend to the "on frequency directives "to the artifical intelligence" aircraft? The FS2002 controllers give these don't they? One time I was vectored for traffic. The choppy controller said traffic at 12 oclock 10 miles crossing right to left. Clear skies at night but I never saw it (And there's no reason I should not have unless the other aircraft was flying without lights!). I strongly suspect there wasn't any aircraft there. Was that call to an artifical aircraft that I missed or does RC30 make traffic calls in an attempt to add to the "reality" feeling? Moreover, out the cockpit I could see plenty of other aircraft flying the vector airway but my choppy controller voice never said a peep to these other aircraft. And I never heard them say anything to the enroute sector controller. Enroute controllers have many aircraft on the same frequency, don't they? Isn't this one of the reasons pilots have resisted digital communications in that they like the "party line" effect of hearing the other aircraft and the comms others have with the contoller?Furthermore the chatter I hear on frequency is sometimes inappropriate for the frequency. On approach, I heard a recorded snippet where an aircraft was vectored a runway 2. ORD doesn't have a runway 2! And the "voice" was not the "voice" of choppy controller that gave me descent clearance just minutes earlier. It appeared to be a recorded scanner type communication which had nothing at all to do with my current flight and seemed entirely out of place. And another time, I heard a clearance delivery communication on the enroute sector freq. That wouldn't normally happen, would it?Do I have something set wrong? I hope so!!Full install of RC3. WinXP pro P4 2.4 GHz 1 GB DDR. Traffic V's Max and Chatter 10%.

Larry,There's all kinds of reasons that you may not have seen the lights of the aircraft 10 miles away. It depends on the mood of FS if you see them that far. Most of the time I don't see anything until 9 miles or less.RC doesn't talk with AI aircraft, there's no point.Canned chatter is just recorded chatter, not chatter from specific airports, unless you have recordings from those specific airports. O'Hare isn't one of them we have, except for Tower. If you want airport-specific chatter without having the recorded chatter, you can switch to generated chatter, which uses your controller and pilot voices in the winwood directory. To do that, rename winwoodusa to winwoodusa1, then no more canned chatter.

Hi JD,Full install for FS2002 Pro.

well i know we have usa chatterdid you change the fs time/clock after start rc? that will affect when the next chatter file will play.

Yes I think I did actually. I realised that my FS time was way off for the flight I was doing ( for a VA ) so I amended it. So I take it don't start RC3 until you're happy with the time selected, and then don't change it ?Does the FSUIPC 'synch FS time to real time' check box have any affect on RC3 ?Thanks JD.Ade

correct, don't start rc until you are happy with your fs environment (time, weather, physical location, etc)fsuipc synch time shouldn't be a problem, unless it changes the time drastically. i would also think that it would change the time immediately on initialization, not in the middle of a flightmaybe daylight savings time nights would be a problem ;-)

Thanks for your help JD.Fingers crossed for my next flight !Ade

Just to let you know that your soultion worked perfectly JD.The chatter ( this time KLAX-PHNL ) was relevant to the location as well. Thanks again,Ade.
