December 19, 200223 yr I have over the course of about five hours (added to many other hours on MANY different days, I have installed a SB Live! Value card running XP drivers version 80.0.0.3 which just came directly from Creative zipped in file LiveDrvPack created December 18,2002, 24.7 MB. This includes the Creative EMU10K1 Audio Processor (WDM) device. The SB card is installed on a Asus P4PE MB 2.4 GHz P4 with 1 GB DDR running winXP Pro. On board integrated SoundMax chip is disabled in BIOS. RCV3.exe priority shows "above normal" in Task Manager. I STILL have choppy audio when I listen in the WxBrf. Yet the ATIS voices heard in FS2002 are most definitely NOT choppy. FS2002 somehow is able to "play" engine wavs, controller speech, and environmental effects like marker beacon noises simultaneously without missing a beat.I am beginning to believe this choppy "effect" is permanent in this version of RC30. I can replicate the choppy audio by simply feeding your .wave files to the windows API PlaySound(). The effect is something like an Army Sgt. who is not having a good day. [;-)Would you please supply a file containing a complete WxBrf session playable on Windows Media player so I can hear if any difference exists between the RC30 audio I am supposed to hear and what I hear on this end. Let me know here in this form and I'll contact you through the RC website.Thank you.Larry
December 19, 200223 yr Commercial Member scott has a recording on his web site, of what his rc installation sounds like.are you increasing the process priority? JD Read my blog
December 19, 200223 yr Yes, RC30.exe is shown running at "above normal" in Task Manger. I just found out about the .WAV file at http://avsim.com/flightdeck/rcv3/RCvoicesample.zip I downloaded it and played it back. The speech cadence matches what I am hearing here very closely.I guess I am expecting something which is not to be. Thanks for your help. RC30 is still a huge improvement over default FS2002.Larry
December 19, 200223 yr Hello Larry, You have expressed exactly what I was trying to say about the staccato form of RCV3 audio but I didn't express it as eloquently as you did. True, RC3 does indeed have excellent options but I did find the speech somewhat like "True Grit"Regards and Happy Holidays to the group.
December 19, 200223 yr Commercial Member since the program is running outside of fs200x, it has to compete for resources. if it could run inside fs200x, it would share them. not in the cards :-(sorry that the voices didn't live up to your expectations, but i hope everything else rc does, helps :-) JD Read my blog
December 19, 200223 yr True there's only a finite amount of computer resources. But somehow M$ figured out how to do this (It's just that their implementation is very rudimentary where yours has great promise). Hoever, I still question if the problem is the lack of resources since we can experimentally bump the process priority up. We could find out by having someone produce a .WAV file of a WxBrf session running a separate computer connected to FS2002 by Pete Dowson's wide FSUIPC, then comparing output with what we hear from RC30. There RC30 would have nearly all the resources of the computerAlso recall, I can duplicate the choppy speech from a little program I wrote that uses PlaySound to rapidly but sequencially "play" each of your .WAV files. The choppy speech appears even when I have FS2002, ActiveWXre and even RC30 running. If it was a question of resources, I would not expect this to be the case. What about forming a continuous .WAV file before you ask the system to "play" it? Somewhere there is a built in pause occuring before or after each .WAV phrase is "played".Just my thoughts. Larry
December 19, 200223 yr Larry,I run RC on a separate PC using wide fs. The voices are so fast I have to really listen close or I will miss it.Larry
December 20, 200223 yr Hello JD, Yes all the new features in V3 are indeed great and really are a pleaure to use. That is what makes this issue sad. There is so much that is GREAT in V3 with the only drawback (my opinion) being the ATC soundwaves.Regards
December 20, 200223 yr Commercial Member i took the plunge and installed widefs on two of the machines on my lan at home.i thought it would be really complicated. but, heh, if you can do it, i should be able to figure it out :-)load a dll on the fs machine, edit an ini. load an exe on my rc machine, and edit an ini file. worked the first time, and i was amazed. kind of weird having the voices coming out of the machine behind me, and the aircraft sounds coming from the machine i was on. but that made sense, even if my brain had a hard time coping with it.for those wondering whether you can load widefs on two computers at home, YES you CAN. December 20, 200223 yr Blais,I agree with you. I would add one more item to your RCv30 issue list.Unless I have misconfigured RCv30 somehow, I never hear any artificial traffic being directed as you do listening in on the default ATC. In FS2002, you have the sense that other aircraft are on the frequency and what they are doing,(holding short, exiting the runway when able, etc) you can many times see out the cockpit windscreen. My sense with RC30 ATC is that myself and the controller are the only two on the frequency. I never hear ATC directives to other artificial or robotic aircraft. If you have the "chatter" slider up, you do hear "real" off-the-air snippets apparently recorded from a aircraft band scanner. But these recorded comms are usually out of context. I turned chatter slider to off because I felt these gratuitous comms. degraded the experience.Larry
December 20, 200223 yr I've seen a number of posts on this topic and one of the thoughts in this thread was to add RC3 to the FS process rather than being on its own. I understand that would be extremely difficult to do.However, it might be worth considering adding a very small module to the FS modules directory and have it do all the audio playback. It could receive queues from the external RC3 process about what to play and when.-- Scotte
December 21, 200223 yr Hi Larry, I speak for myself here and how I use RC. I keep AI Traffic and sounds minimized based on my experience in listening to the various RW centers I have had the privilege of doing. Once the Commercial Jet was on a center frequency there was essentially no ATC chatter. Of course once you hit approach then that is altogether different, especially at O'Hare and Hartsfield. Thus, in my sim world, I neither see nor hear any AI traffic. I assume once JD gets any info from Billy Boy, and I doubt that he ever will, maybe RC will handle the traffic and sounds differently. I really can't speak to that issue. I had talked to Scott about placing the specific sound clips into a buffer, we called it a variation on the theme of a FIFO, and then clock the contents of that FIFO out in one continuous stream just as we did in digital telephony but it is easy for me to say this and probably a difficult task to actually implement. Although I can live with the sound files right now using the modified startup because all this is offset by the great options V30 delivers. I am presently installing RCV30 on my networked computer and as soon as I send and receive a key for the program will give that setup a chance. (Had a rather difficult time setting up IPX/SPX on a WIN98/XP-P combo. Didn't want to use TCP/IP for obvious reasons.)Regards
December 21, 200223 yr Larry,As has been said innumerable times, RC cannot control AI. MS will have to release an ATC/AI SDK before this can be done. If RC can't control it, there's no point in talking to it.If you want to hear more specific chatter for your area, then rename (in the US) the USA directory to USA1. Then you will get RC generated chatter. Or see if you can get ahold of specific canned chatter for specific airports. This is all in the manual.

If so, then why are you still using it? If not, then my sincere apologies and your comments/suggestions are always encouraged.Take care,David
December 21, 200223 yr Hello David, When I read, on this forum, JD's note of his intention to send a refund I immediately sent a personal note to JD and to the Credit Card handler stating that I do NOT WANT a refund. I know I irritated JD and the group but want to stay with the purchased product. The product indeed has some very positive features. It was never my intention to ask for a refund.Sincerely
