December 26, 200223 yr Hi,I have just started to use RC and I have been able to fly under RC control from standard airport to standard airport with a perfect record as confirmed by flight critique at the end. One flight, however, appears impossible: From Kufstein / Austria (LOIK) to St.Johann / Austria (LOIJ). First, I am directed to a runway 18 which does not exist and then I am being directed at 4000 ft right into the mountains. On this flight, I do not have a menu item "request different altitude" and any attempt to gain height results in a harsh admonishment from the controller to stick to the suicidal 4000 ft level. I assembled the flight plan in FSNav and exported it to RC. FSNav stubbornly refuses to change flight levels at any waypoint but insists on an unrealistically flat path at 2556/3288/3972/3748/2726 ft respectively. EOC and BOD are at the same point half-way, as if that profile was the steepest possible.Any ideas?Fritz :-zhelp
December 26, 200223 yr Check the manual under "NOTAMs" about flying in mountainous terrain. There could be an error in the runways data. If you know what you're doing, find the airport in the r.txt file. BACK UP THE FILE BEFORE MAKING ANY CHANGES.
December 26, 200223 yr Scott,Thank you for your fast reply. Yes, I'll read the manual more carefully this time...As for the other issue, I looked up r.txt and it seems that the airport I tried to take off from does not exist in this file. Does RC only represent MS default airports? When I start RC and choose options, I can find and select the correct runway as "available", but IRC still assigns the non-existing runway. Could you explain the 5 numbers after the airport code to enable me to add the missing airport? Do I have to add it to a.txt as well?Fritz
December 26, 200223 yr Commercial Member send me the specifics about the airport, and runways, and i'll format it for you.yes, rc only knows about the fs2002 airports and runwaysplease make backups of a.txt and r.txt - an extra comma, or a missed comma will render rc uselessa.txt - icao_code, name, lat, lon, magvar, elevation, max_rwy_lengthmax_rwy_length is the longest runway at that airportr.txt -icao_code, rwy_length, rwy_width, rwy_id, rwy_hdg, rwy_ils_freqif there is no ils freq for a runway, put 0there is one runway line for each runway JD Read my blog
December 26, 200223 yr Fritz,As well as what JD said, don't move any runways in the FSNav export. Also, it's always best to export to FS2000 and use that .pln file in RC.
