December 29, 200223 yr This is another incomplete flight. KDX to KSEA IFR Airbus as before. I checked the weather a couple of times while at cruise altitude. Then suddenly about 30 miles out of Seattle I am told "You missed your crossing restiction turn 360 etc". I did not turn, because I did not know of any crossing restiction, and just flew on over the airport at cruise with no input from RC3. I never was told to descend etc for approach, but at some point when checking weather, the runway in use 36L came up in the box. I am betting that when I was off for weather, RC3 send me the information to descend etc for approach, but I never heard it. Could this be an error?PS headphones and Game commander work great.Greg
December 29, 200223 yr Commercial Member at 70 miles from the arrival airport you will be told to expext a certain altitude for your crossing.you normally would be given a pd clearance after that. you should start descending at that point, if you hope to meet your crossing restriction.you will either be told to cross 40 miles from xxx at 10000, 250 knots, or told to start down now, i need you level in 30 miles or less.depends on where your last checkpoint is, which of the two scenarios you are going to get.have you flown any of the tutorials? that might be a good place to start instead of taking off into the wild blue yonder :-)even if you are off getting weather, you will get your clearances when you get back on frequency. December 29, 200223 yr Greg,You should have gotten multiple descent instructions. Descend to FL350 if you're above it. Descend to FL240 or FS200 if you're above it. PD to 17,000 or 19,000, either a crossing 40 miles from a VOR that's within 5 miles of the airport, or "Descend to 10,000, I need you down in 30 miles or less" if not. It's difficult to believe you got nothing at all.
