January 7, 200323 yr I FINALLY managed to get my network up and running after a week of cursing by replacing one of the Linksys cards for an HP card which worked......dont ask me why...I am much in the dark as anyone else :)There was nothing wrong with the Linksys card it worked OK in the ME computer. But still couldnt get WideFS to work.....after more hair pulling...I found that my ME machine could not read the Proram Files folder even though I THINK I have the shared settings correct. I got around it by reloading the FS2002 outside Program files. It now works ok.One thing, (totally new to this network thing) should I be able to start RC which resides on the client computer from the computer where my FS is running ? or do I have to start RC on the computer it resides then run the flight sim as usual on the main computer, thats what I did anyway? Whenever I tried to start RC from the FS computer it showed it wasnt registered, as I said I dont know anything about networking :)Rick
January 7, 200323 yr I have 2 computers networked (both XP) and run FS2002 on one andRC on the other. XP does not allow sharing the "program files" folderalthough you can share sub-folders. I've always ran flight sim onthe main computer then started RC on the other. I tried runningRC from the main computer and I get the same "not registered" message.
January 7, 200323 yr Commercial Member you may just need to send the product id to [email protected] for your second machine. JD Read my blog
January 7, 200323 yr Maybe a bit of a misunderstanding, RC will run as registered whenstarted from the machine on which it is installed. When trying tostart it from the networked machine it shows as not being registered. What would happen if you try to re-register it from the networked machine?
January 7, 200323 yr Commercial Member rc generates a new product id, on each machine it is installed on.you have to send the product id, and enter the unique key on each machine you want to run it on JD Read my blog
January 7, 200323 yr >What would happen if you try to re-register it from the >networked machine? I had RC running on the original but took it off and re-registered when I installed it on the networked machine. I have no problems starting it from the networked machine as it is in the same room, I was just curious.Rick
January 7, 200323 yr I understand your frustrations. I spent last weekend networking my old K6-400 laptop (98) to work with my main XP Pro machine. Once I got the firewall and the sharing sorted it works beautifully - it is certainly better than having it all on the same machine.I re-installed RC on the laptop, which incidentally took over 4.5 hours (is that a record?) and now run with ShowText, RC and ActiveSky running on the laptop and the main machine having nothing to worry about but running FS2002.As to the original problem of not being able to see the Program Files directory, not only do you need share set up but you also need to ensure that the userid that you are using on the second machine to access the XP machine has the right user access rights. XP has a habit of preventing 'users' from accessing Program Files properly.Regards and happy flying,KP
