January 10, 200323 yr Today I was flying a repaint of the default 734 at FL370 and, all of a sudden, ATC started repeatedly saying I should maintain 370 and saying I've busted my altitude. This went on for about 10 minutes, even though I was at 370, my altimiter was set to 29.92, and I responded each time I was contacted. They didn't stop until I was directed to desend to my arrival airport. Another thing I noticed is that the simulator altimiter setting is almost never the same as the Radar contact altimeter. Radar Contact was telling me altimeter should be 30.72 when in actuality it should have been something like 29.79. Is this just the way it works, if so I would have been off a few hundred feet. During a flight when this was the case, I was being told I was busting my altitude until I hit "B" to set the altimiter, which was way off from the setting they gave me. Did I do something wrong installing, or is this just the way they work, and you have to compensate by knowing their wrong? Otherwise this is a great program and I love flying with it. Thanks, Jon
January 10, 200323 yr Commercial Member no, there is something wrong. rc will never give you the altimeter when you are above the trasition levelgo to the options page of rc, and see what you have in the departure, enroute and arrival transition levels.what are the numbers? JD Read my blog
January 13, 200323 yr Sorry for the delay. RC wasn't giving me a new altimiter setting while above 180, as the transition levels were set correctly. I was given teh incorrect settings while on approach. Prior to the approach it was telling me that I was at the incorrect altitude while I was at cruising altitude of 370 with my altimiter set to 29.92 on teh default 737 panel. My second, question regarding the incorrect altimiter setting, was after I was told to decend. The setting I was given was waaaaay off from the actual. Also the winds that wx freq. and ATIS were giving were not correct either. Maybe I'm setting up the flight wrong or something, but shouldn't RC be able to respond to the simulator's changes in Wx.
