RC on Networked PC Saves The Day..........

Featured Replies

Folks have well documented the fact that RC just seems to run better on a networked PC using WideFS. I too have found this to be the case. However, until two days ago I did not realize that using RC on a networked PC can save your bacon should your main PC running FS2002 crash/freeze. I was flying from KPDX to KPSP minding my own business when out of nowhere, about 2/3 into the flight, FS2002 froze and so did Windows XP. Why it did, I have no idea and is not why I posted this message. I was basically staring at a black screen with no chance of recovery. At first I thought I was going to have to start over from scratch when I recalled that RC has a "Save" function. So, I brought up the RC interface and pressed the button. RC seemed to gather data from my frozen PC across the network and to my amazement and glee, after I rebooted my main PC and restarted FS2002, the saved RC data completely restored my flight to the moment it had frozen!!! Now, I imagine there are situations that even RC cannot recover data, but for now........I never fly FS2002 without RC and by doing so feel I give myself a better than even odds chance that if disaster strikes again, and it will sooner or later, at least I have a tool to recovery my lost flight. THANKS RC!!!Randy Jura, KPDX

sounds like a driver issue, power saver issue or something quirky.maybe i can market rc as fs2002 crash guard :-)

Definitely something "quirky", if you own one of these machines long enough, just about everything/anything will eventually happen, never has recurred, thank goodness. Actually the RC Save feature is a bit like Windows "restore points"Randy Jura, KPDX

Randy,I'm curious. Did FS actually save the flight? Saving RC as is doesn't do much good if FS isn't saved, too. I'd like to know if it did save the FS state. Also, when you say (paraphrasing), "RC saved my frozen RC", were you running RC on both machines, or am I just confused (a normal state)?
