Whether Generation Programs Question

Featured Replies

Hi All!I presently have version 5.1 of Fsmeteo and in the near future would like to get a program that would be compatible with RC3. Is the 5.2 upgrade the way to go? The alternatives look like they have some pretty interesting features. My question is how good are the alternatives compared to Fsmeteo? I am looking at Whether Center (Is it fully RC3 comaptible?) and ActiveSky.Any comments to help me decide on which way to go would be appreciated!!Thanks, Scott

Scott,FSM 5.1 is already compatible with RC. The only difference between 5.1 and 5.2 is that RC can set the destination weather into 5.2 automatically. So when you go to your alternates, or make a change of destination, you don't need to do anything to FSM.ActiveSky will be fully compatible with RC in it's next release, but is mostly compatible now.I don't recall is Weather Center is fully compliant. JD will know. However, RC will still know the weather since it gets its data from FSUIPC, just like with all the weather.

Scott, Thanks for the reply! Now I have a few more questions from your reply>>FSM 5.1 is already compatible with RC. The only difference between 5.1 and 5.2 is that RC can set the destination weather into 5.2 automatically. So when you go to your alternates, or make a change of destination, you don't need to do anything to FSM.I take it the reason for this is so the whether that Atis gives you will match whats going on outside, and so RC's destination runway will still be the appropriate runway to use. In other words RC reads the destination whether and locks it so that even though FSM could get an update with different whether, that new update is locked out?>>ActiveSky will be fully compatible with RC in it's next release, but is mostly compatible now.Is this gonna be a way in the future whole new release or just a fixer upper release (patch release)? Was hoping to find out more about the Whether center, as that is the program that most insterests me. Thanks, ScottP.S. Is it ever gonna snow in what is becoming our front range desert?

Scott,>I take it the reason for this is so the whether that Atis >gives you will match whats going on outside, and so RC's >destination runway will still be the appropriate runway to >use. In other words RC reads the destination whether and >locks it so that even though FSM could get an update with >different whether, that new update is locked out?FSM has always reported weather correctly and RC reads the weather correctly since FSM 3 or 4. If the weahter changes, you may be vectored to another runway, just like in the real world. I've often listened to ATIS with one runway, and APC gives me another.>>>ActiveSky will be fully compatible with RC in it's next release, but is mostly compatible now.>>Is this gonna be a way in the future whole new release or >just a fixer upper release (patch release)?I don' recall. The ActiveSky people and JD will know.>P.S. Is it ever gonna snow in what is becoming our front >range desert?I hope so. I'm rather fond of having water to drink.

the active sky enhancements will be in 3.01, to be released in a couple of weeks

JD,Is whether center fully RC3 compatible? if not what is lacking. have you used it as well? Thanks, Scott

Scott,Please forgive my anal-retentive side, but it's Weather, not Whether. Whether is either/or (I didn't know whether I should post this). Weather is meteorological conditions (the weather is rather warm and calm for this time of year). ;-)Again, sorry about that...like I said, it's my anal side. ;-)

Scott, Oh man your right, I am so used to the other use and spelling of that word that I didn't even pay attention to that. My mistake.Scott...

Scott,No worries, mate. I really should have sent you a private message. My apologies.(edited because I can't spell "I". *I* am not kidding).

Scott,I have both FSMeteo and WxRE,but-and this is my own opinion,I prefer FSmeteo as I can save weather for the past more easily.I fly offline (despite broadband) as it is one other task not slowing the system.I may be doing wxRE an injustice as I have only used over the last few weeks but it appears you can only have 24 hours of wether as it doed not date/time the files merely timestamp the files it downloads.Choose you own routeBest wishesAshley

>>..it appears you can only have 24 hours of wether...Not so Ashley. Just create a sub folder to WxRE called say "20/01" ie:todays date. d/l a 24hr cycle to this folder then create another sub folder "21/01" and tomorrow you can d/l another 24hr cycle. Or create a sub folder called "Storms" and d/l your stormy weather to there. WxRE is configurable so you can tell it where to d/l its wx files to. It's under "Options".Oh, Ashley please don't incure the wrath of Scott's "anal retentive side" and spell weather correctly, ie NOT "wether" ;)

Ashley:If you are looking for a weather program that will save numerous files with date and time stamps for off-line use, you should try "Get Weather". It is a small program that runs in the background, and can either be set to update from the internet for on-line use, or d/l and store a file for offline use. I use it currently, and it is fully compatible with RC3 as far as I can tell. I have run FS2K2 with and without get weather running, and found no performance difference. Best of all it is free. You can get it if you are interested from www.bearsoft.de .*edited for spelling*Bill

Dave,I think what Ashley means is that you can't store weather from older dates, like one can with FSM. There's about a year of weather on Marc's servers.

Thanks all,I hadn't thought of that method, but think it is just a little cumbersome and prefer DTG-probably my radio background! As for spelling-Scott is welcome to pick me up-it's about 10000000 on my list of abilities and I freely admit it takes a back seat while I'm trying to compose a post-mea culpa!I will try that other program as well.73sAshley
