March 19, 200323 yr Hey Guys,Question about a flight I made yesterday. Plan was from KPBF to KCHA using RC v 3.1 and Active Sky v 1.5 weather. Shortly after takeoff I handed the comms and plane over to the co-pilot. Didn't notice the altimeter until instructed to descend to FL140. After leveling off at FL140 the altimeter stayed at 29.92. It stayed that way the rest of the flight and I didn't get yelled at. Made a couple of quick checks and finally looked at the transition level. It was set at 0. This was the first chance I'd had to play with RC 3.1 since I updated from 3.0 to 3.1. That explained that part.Now...... reloaded the same flight with the correct transition level set in RC . Again, shortly after take off I hand everything over to the co-pilot. This time I'm watching the altimeter and he immediately sets it for 29.92. Active sky is reporting 29.47. Just to see what happens, I sped the sim up to 8X. Got the instructions to descend to FL140. As before, the altimeter stayed set at 29.92. Hung around for a short while and still didn't get yelled at.Just wondering if this might have something to do with the older freeware version of Active Sky that I'm running or some setting in FSUIPC or both.ThanksDoc G
March 19, 200323 yr Commercial Member first, i don't think you are running 3.1 - maybe 3.01if it is 3.01, please verify that the transition levels on the controller page are set correctly18000 should be entered as 180. 9000 should be entered as 90. JD Read my blog
March 19, 200323 yr My mistake. It's version 3.01 as you stated. And I just double checked. The transition level on the controllers page is set at 180.I going to re-fly this again later this afternoon. At least up to point where I give the plane and comms to otto.
March 19, 200323 yr OK JD. Here's what I did. Flew the plan again with the 2 different aircraft. Then flew a different plan with 2 different aircraft. In all cases, when I handed the plane and comms to otto, the altimeter was reset to 29.92.About the only thing common to all of the above was the fact that I was setting up the departure airport to be non terminal. I was getting weather and clearance through FSS. By setting up as a non terminal airport I was unchecking all boxes under departure on the controler info page.Just for a lark I decided to leave the departure airport as a terminal, all boxes checked. Went through the whole nine yards. Weather, CD, Ground, Tower...... Shortly after liftoff I gave it all to otto. This time the altimeter setting remained as it was.Just to check my findings I'm gonna try this again with a completely new plan. Once as a terminal departure and once as a non terminal and see if what happensDoc G
March 19, 200323 yr Doc,That's a good testing method. Just make absolutely certain the TA is set to 18000 (not 180) each time. 3.01 will reset the TA to what it was saved as when you first flew the plan. So when you reploaded the plan the first time, 10 to 1 says TA was reset to 180.Also as a note, it's an error for RC to now call it TL. When in feet, it's TA.
March 19, 200323 yr Well... as the younger folks say "my bad". Sitting here laughing at my own ignorance.I had the transition level set properly under departure, but had no transition level settings under Center or Arrival.Sorry for the waste of time. But what the heck.... I did manage to learn something today.Doc G
March 22, 200323 yr I keep forgetting which version is which. With 3.01 the TL really is 180, not (TA) 18000. I need to update me scorecard.Sorry about all the confusion.
