I'm busting altitudes! What gives?

Featured Replies

Guys:GREAT program. Just one thing (forgive me if someone already asked this question): When I'm flying any plane with any FP WITH DOWNLOADED WEATHER, I keep getting busted when I'm handed over to Center. Alt is set correctly and trans alt is set to 180. I must "clear all weather" to keep from having to see QA upon landing. I have NOT yet flown above FL100. Was I wrong to set the TA for 180? Should I have set it at all? Please advise.sean hall

are you setting your altimeter to 29.92 when you climb through 180? are you setting your altimeter to local pressure when you descend through 180?

I HAVEN'T FLOWN ABOVE 10,000 YET. this happens when departure hands me over to center. departure doesn't have a problem with me. example: KJYO -> KRIC (90 miles, 7000 CRZ). moments after being handed over to center, controller starts telling me to watch my altitude. alt and baro are properly set; i even "leave to get wx" to confirm alt setting. controller gets more and more angry...finally telling me to meet the FAA admin on the ramp when I land. odd, since when i "shift-Z," it shows me at my correct target altitude. the only way to eliminate problem seems to be to "clear all weather" and reset alt to 29.92. i don't know if it's an issue w/RC or FS2002. my TA is set for 180. on lower flights, should i set it for zero?sean hall

if the transition altitude is 180 (18,000ft), there is no FL100.what number do you have in the transition altitude boxes, on the controllers page? 18, 180, 18000?

As I said; since getting RC, I haven't flown above 10,000 feet. Since RC seems to use FL for all altitudes under IFR, that's why I wrote it that way.I recreated the KJYO-KRIC trip. This time, I set the TA to ZERO. No problems. Center was happy.I had 180 in the TA box before.sean hall

what is your filed cruise altitude? what is entered in the cruise altitude box on the controllers page?do you have 180 in departure, center, AND arrival sections?there is something wrong, if 10000 is referred to as FL100, and you have 180 in each transition level box on the controllers page. you don't have 18 entered by chance?why don't you send me the .pln file you are using as input to rc. it will be in fs2002flightsmyflts. there will also be a .rc3 file in the same directory. send them both to me.

i reset TA to 180 for dep, ctr and app/dest. much better, now. thanks!sean hall

180 for dep; 0 for center and arrival.

that would explain the problem you described
