May 28, 200323 yr Hi,I am considering to update to RCv3 (currently using V2).I would like to know the following:- Is it possible to have RCv3 and RCv2 installed at the same time?- Is it possible to install RCv3 once, in a way that it can be used by FS98 *and* FS2002 (I have installed both on my system)?- I am running a Pentium II 450 Mhz, which was very good with FS98 and still ok with FS2002 (it works even with RCv2 and standard scenery). Can I expect RCv3 to work with this hardware or do I have to fear sound stuttering?Regards,Guido

Both would take up gigs of space for all the wav files, and with V3, you have to have wavs in both FS98 and FS2002. Then you're adding the V3 wavs, although they are in the RC folder. Also, v2 FS2002 turns off ATC/AI when an adventure is run. V2 is an adventure compiler, V3 is not. FS2002 also does not support all the adventure coding.>- Is it possible to install RCv3 once, in a way that it can be>used by FS98 *and* FS2002 (I have installed both on my>system)?Yes>- I am running a Pentium II 450 Mhz, which was very good with>FS98 and still ok with FS2002 (it works even with RCv2 and>standard scenery). You need a multi-channel sound card to run RCV3 and FS. With that system, however, you will probably have sound stuttering with FS2002.

May 29, 200323 yr Adding to JD's notes:Regarding SB Live! Value. That will work just fine without problem.Regarding task switching and stuttering. I'm not sure what you really mean. You don't need to switch between FS and RC. If you have other programs you need to switch to while flying, then you can set pause on task switch or not. If not, RC will actually run a lot faster when FS is minimized or in the background. The size of my RCv3 is about 1.4 gb, which includes the extra controllers and compressed oceanic files. The base install will vary, but will be about the same.I didn't know you weren't running RCv3 with FS98.The best thing to do is to install RCv3 and see how it goes. You can always increase the priority to realtime and get faster wav playback, usually without stuttering. The sound quality is very good anyway, and I think you'll be fairly happy with it. I'm surprised you can run FS2002 on a PII 450 at all, so you're ahead of me there.

May 29, 200323 yr Hi Scott,>Regarding SB Live! Value. That will work just fine without>problem.Great.>Regarding task switching and stuttering. I'm not sure what>you really mean. You don't need to switch between FS and RC. >If you have other programs you need to switch to while flying,>then you can set pause on task switch or not. If not, RC will>actually run a lot faster when FS is minimized or in the>background. When a single-CPU system "runs" two programs simultaneously it will have to use preemptive multitasking. That means, the first program will get a timeslice for processing, then the task is switched by the OS (not be me), so the second program gets its timeslice and so on. You never really run two programs at the same time if you have only one CPU.Thus, this internal task switching might lead to sound stuttering or to a drop in the framerate in FS, if the horsepower of the CPU is low. And we all know FS is taking all it can get ;-)>The size of my RCv3 is about 1.4 gb, which includes the extra>controllers and compressed oceanic files. The base install>will vary, but will be about the same.Thanks.>I didn't know you weren't running RCv3 with FS98.Well, I said I'm considering buying it, so how could I *run* it, if I don't have bought it? ;-) Or did you mean RCv2?>You can always increase the priority to realtime and get>faster wav playback, usually without stuttering. The sound>quality is very good anyway, and I think you'll be fairly>happy with it. I'm surprised you can run FS2002 on a PII 450>at all, so you're ahead of me there.Running FS on PII 450 is not an issue, as long as you don't invoke much AI traffic, keep the graphic settings low and stick with the default scenery and aircrafts. You won't get very high framerates though, but it is still flyable - much better as FS2000.Regards,Guido
May 29, 200323 yr Commercial Member there are 3 ways of changing destination. one, you can specify 2 alternate airports before you start running. use these for inclement weather situations, or to practice missed approaches and going to an alternate.you can also change destination in flight, to anywhere in the world. the database of airports is based on fs2002, so you might have to be careful thereyou can also change destination by declaring an emergency, there you will have the option to choose the closest airport suitable for landing your plane at, or give a specific airport (which will be similar to the second case)as far as internal task switching, i don't think you will see a problem. if you do, there are command line switches which allow you to change the process priority of rcand if it doesn't work for you, tell me, and i'll refund your money. That is a very fair offer, which I have taken. You should have received my upgrade order by now.By the way: I am from Germany and have selected the appropriate country entry on the order page, but on the final confirmation page the country was then listed as "DE". While this could be the abbreviation of "Deutschland" - the German word for "Germany", I hope it will be replaced again by the English term before the CD is shipped. As according to your mail, the CD is shipped from Memphis, how long do you expect it will take, maybe a week?Regards,Guido
May 29, 200323 yr Guido,DE is the country code for Germany. Germany will be on the label.Shipping time to Germany has been averaging 2 to 3 weeks. Your order will be shipped tomorrow May 30, 2003.

June 11, 200322 yr >Shipping time to Germany has been averaging 2 to 3 weeks. Your>order will be shipped tomorrow May 30, 2003.Just for the records and other readers:The CD reached me on Jun 07, 2003, that's 8 days later - quite good delivery time. The installation on this Pentium-II 450 Mhz with large FAT32 filesystem on 7,200 rpm harddisk with 8 MB disk cache needed about 3 hours. This was the longest installation from only one CD that I have ever seen (several other games have installed multiple CDs in that time). However, it created over 30,000 files with 548,503,552 bytes in the RC directory.Regards,Guido
