June 13, 200322 yr Hi,I was happily flying along to BWI when I was informed arrival was closed due to weather. I was given a vector and a waypoint. I proceeded to the waypoint, and since I did not get any additional instructions, I went into a holding pattern. And held, and held, and held. Now there was a thunderstorm at BWI, so after quite a while I cleared the weather there, thinking that was why I didn't receive clearence. And held, and held, and held. Finally I declared minimum fuel and was cleared direct to BWI. Soon I was told arrival was closed and to go back to my waypoint!!!! I figured I held at least 1.5 hours game time.I'm not sure if I did the right thing, or whether the thunderstorm was keeping the arrival closed, or what. Can anyone tell me what I was supposed to do? I want to handled this correctly next time. Thanks!Tim Dobrowolsky
June 13, 200322 yr Commercial Member there is a tutorial and write up on how to do this. you were probably asked if you wanted vectors or holding pattern. for the beginner, vectors are probably the best, since the controller tells you everything to dothe holding instructions that the controller tells you is all in one string of instructions. if you aren't prepared for them, and don't execute the hold as directed, you never get out of hold.read up on the tutorial and write up, and try it again. if you have any questions, we're here to help :-) JD Read my blog
June 13, 200322 yr No, I wasn't asked for vectors or holding pattern. The controller told me I'd get vectors. So, very strange. I've successfully executed a hold pattern before, even though it's hard to hear the instructions. Thanks for the help - I'll consult the tutorial.
