June 26, 200322 yr Hi can somone help me over come a problem i have with never knowing what run way will be in use at my destination. last night set a flight from Newark down to Orlando,i had down loaded real weather and i also have UT on my system. Nearing Orlando i was cleared to leave frequency for a ATIS report, which told me the runway in use for landing was 35. With it being a bit hazzy on finals i didn't see the runway till close, but then realised that every one else was using 17. Did i do somthing wrong?,is there a other way of finding out which runway is in use. Thanks in advance. Shaun.
June 26, 200322 yr Commercial Member what weather program are you using? if you aren't using fsmeteo or active sky, then rc doesn't know what the weather is, at your destination, until you are over it.if you monitor fs atc (not interact with it), you can hear where approach is sending the planes, and then ask rc to change you to that runway.but activesky and fsmeteo both report the destination weather to rc, and rc makes runway selections based on the destination winds.jd JD Read my blog
June 26, 200322 yr Hello the weather program i am using is activesky. I will listen to atc and try and find out that way. try it tonight. thanks for the help. Shaun.
June 26, 200322 yr Commercial Member make sure you were using the latest and greatest activesky. you can tell if activesky is reporting to rc, if you see the destination airport pre-populated in the activesky interface.does 17 have an ils, and 35 doesn't?jd JD Read my blog
June 27, 200322 yr Shaun,Remember that FSATC doesn't necessarily use the right runway. RC is far better at using the winds than FS, which is usually wrong over 70% of the time. It totally depends on how the airport is defined in the AFD and ATC files. RC will consider runway length for your a/c type, ILS, then wind. Most of the time RC is correct, even if FSATC is using the opposite end which is wrong. Also, as JD said, make sure you have the latest ActiveSky.
