Using RCv3 with FMC etc.

Featured Replies

big apologies if this is an already-discussedtopic, but my forum search has not yet helpedme understand how best to work with RCv3 andsomething like PIC/PMDG FMC and full flightplan - - I am a relative beginner at coordinating thesegreat softwares - and experiencing basic problemsduring approach such as being vectored away frommy STAR etc.advice, or the right search field to find thediscussion in the forum, preciated - cheers*******************

I think the PIC uses non-standard co-pilot controls. RC's co-pilot is unable to fly this type aircraft. However she can manage the radio controls without problem. Your best bet is to let her handle the radio and fly the aircraft using the FMC.

kabli,as much as I hate to say it, you realy need to make sure you read the manual ... most questions you will have are answered there. You need to understand what NOTAMS mean and how RC lets you fly a sid or star so you aren't yelled at by the controllers or shot and jailed when you touch down ... hahahahahahahahahahahahahere are some hints:1. your flight plan can be done however you like, Nav3, FSNav, FSBuild, etc. but the final flight plan must be in MSFS Flight Planner. RC uses the MS Flight Planner plan as a basis for ATC.You should PRINT what ever flight plan you are going to follow. Final step is to file (save) your msfs flight plan as a VFR flight.2. Whether PIC or PMDG, or any aircraft with FMS/MCDU, you must put the plan in exactly as you have it in MSFS Flight planner, waypoint by waypoint. There are exceptions when your path is straight and you have multiple intersections perhaps. You can use airways, as long as you check the result of expanding the airways .. in other words, after entering the plan into the FMS, do the legs in FMS match the waypoints in the MSFS Plan?Start MSFS, then start RC and use specify the MSFS fioled flight plan you want. RC will follow that plan.Works extremely well. But it really helps if you read the manual and try the tutorial flights.Good luck! and

Paul, Rick -Thank you both for your replies. I have read the manual!but I will read it again! Paul your step by step descriptionis good and clear regarding the entry of the FP into the FMC, I have it now on that front, thank you.Preciate both your time helping me here - cheers,Dominic/Kabli/Wangdus (legit names honest)

Dominic, if I understand you correctly your problem is mainly that you are being given vectors during approach that takes you away from the STAR of your choice? In addition to what has already been said about NOTAMS etc, I can only add that ATC regularly "shuffles" aircraft around a bit in the real world. If they can, they issue shortcuts. They also need to arrange the planes so they arrive in trail with correct spacing etc, etc. Many STARS end at a point from which ATC always vector the planes. My point is that in this way RC actually reflect the real world. What pilots do when this happens is that they initially use HDG SEL for lateral control and, if needed, Vertical Speed or some sort of Level Change (called different things in various aircraft) to control the vertical path. If they have time and a need they later go heads down and reprogram the FMC, but I think this is fairly unusual at the later stages of an approach. Oh, don

TordThat is *exactly* where I get confused - many thanksfor your message my friend :)After my well-deserved RTFM earlier in this thread I amback with the manual! One of the (pleasurable) problems I find with complexflight software is that reading about it once does not totally do it for me - there is too much to compile all at once! then when RCv3 does something unexpected - boom!-my brain, not my plane, of course -having fun yes, ciao, DominicciaoDominic
