July 26, 200421 yr Hi friends, often, when on approach, controller tells me "fly heading xxx (off course) reaching FLxxx resume own navigation. Why this instruction? i have to fly off route (i have vectors for traffic disabled in RC Options) and shortly after to turn back on my route :-hmmmThanks for helpingLuigi ;-)
July 26, 200421 yr Commercial Member this is probably happening before you contact approach, and it means you missed your crossing restriction. the crossing restriction takes the form of two clearancesone says "lear 41 cross 40 miles from xyz at 10000 250 knots" or"lear 41 descend and maintain 10000, start down now, i need you level in 30 miles or less"how far is your last checkpoint from the arrival airport?jd JD Read my blog
July 26, 200421 yr If it were a missed CR, wouldn't he get the "begin a standard rate 360 until reaching your assigned altitude..."?If it's a fly heading until receiving... he must have missed a waypoint. If it's on APC, then he missed a "fly heading" instruction?Just a thought.Luigi, you need to be specific on which controller is saying this and what the ADvDisp says.
July 26, 200421 yr Hi JD,1) "lear 41 cross 40 miles from xyz at 10000 250 knots"This sounds very clear! It's a friendly instruction :-hah2) "lear 41 descend and maintain 10000, start down now, i need you level in 30 miles or less"This is the one i had during last flight and to be honest i didn't know it was a CR. I was talking with approach, probably so i most probably missed it :-(. What i do not understand is what Scott posted"wouldn't he get the begin a standard rate 360 until reaching your assigned altitude..."?In effect when i miss CR 1) i usually have to choose from vectors and holding. And i always select vectors :-shyLast checkpoint was only 4 nm from the arrival airport.I'm pretty sure i didn't miss any waypoint as flightplan was the same for both RC and PMDG737 FMC (FSBuild generated) working at same time. Thanks for helpingLuigi ;-)

This has always been the case with CR's (either the old or new). You would then be told to contact Approach. So you weren't on Approach, you had to be on Center. If you were on Approach, then there's something else happening. The bit I was talking about (above) was for the old CR, when you are told to cross 40 miles from a VOR at an addigned altitude (either 10,000 or 15,000').Fly it again and see exactly what you are told.
July 26, 200421 yr Commercial Member you don't get to choose holding pattern or vectors if you miss your crossing restrictioni think there are a couple of phrases i use when you miss the CR. you heard one. scott quoted the other. actually one may be given if you get the old CR and the one you got was the one you hear if you miss the new CRi think, i'm sure, all this new crossing restriction/old crossing restriction is written up in the manual. it's not something new to 3.1 - it's there in 3.0 as wellif you missed a waypoint, the heading you would be given to travel, would be 180 degrees behind you.read the section on crossing restrictions. come back if you are more confused after reading it. we're here to help :-) JD Read my blog
July 27, 200421 yr >you don't get to choose holding pattern or vectors if you>miss your crossing restrictionYes, i wrote vectors with in mind "turn" as Scott said (forgive my poor english). What i do not understand i why i have to deviate 90
July 27, 200421 yr Luigi,Yes, if you are not at your assigned altitude by the time Center told you, you will be turned 90 degrees since Approach won't take you at the wrong altitude. It's like a wall you can't pass until you are where you need to be.I have no doubt you had the new CR. Technically, it's not a crossing restriction, but a certain point where you have to be at the right altitude, at the right speed, so Approach can fit you in correctly. When Center says "Descend and maintain 10,000/15,000 (or FL100/150),I need you down in 30 miles or less. Start down now please." they mean it. It's exactly the same as "Cross 40 miles from xxx at 10,000/15000 250 knots." if you have a VOR close to the field as your final waypoint.
July 27, 200421 yr Thanks for prompt reply. Now all is clear, two different CR but same management!CheersLuigi ,-)
