August 28, 200421 yr I really like to fly with my PMDG 737-800, using ATC. I really would like to fly online (Vatsim) but I just don't have the time for it... Getting online, preparing everything, waiting for all clearances and not being allowed to use the time accel option just makes it impossible for me to really seriously give it a try...Sadly enough the FS9 ATC (although a bit better than the FS2002 ATC!)is still not really it... So... here is Radar Contact! But...1. Version 4 is coming pretty soon (somewhere between now and the beginning of 2005 maybe) and I wonder if I should wait...2. I've bought enough things online, but always stuff I could download... RC can't be downloaded and I don't know if I like that... (I live in the Netherlands: where does RC originate?) Anyone here knows if Radar Contact is available somewhere (somehow) in a shop in the Netherlands...?3. There is no demo, if I'm not mistaken. I'd really like to hear how RC sounds! Is it an idea to record and post (as some sort of demo) about 5 or 10 minutes of audio on the RC site, in which everyone can hear what it sounds like?4. Is it correct that RC only talks to you and not the AI? But that v4 will do that?5. If I buy RC now, will I get a bigger discount when I upgrade to v4? It is not a strange thing to give customers who JUST bought something before a new version is released (withing a few months) a bigger discount. Or do I have to pay the same upgrade price as everyone else? I read somewhere RC costs 45 and the upgrade was 35. If that still will be something like that when v4 arrives, I would be stealing from myself... (paying 35 for just a short period of using v3)Well, that's about it.
August 28, 200421 yr Commercial Member 1) hard for me to answer that. on one hand, if you buy it now, you will be an rc pro when v4 comes out. on the other hand, if you wait, then you will have to learn it as you go.2) ships from memphis tennessee. i've done the downloads in v1 and v2, when rc was small. now it is over 450+mb. i won't go into the details, unless you want me to, why we dropped downloads as an option. it is only available via internet ordering, and shipping from tennessee3) maybe someone will do that, and post it here. i'm in v4 crunch time now, and working on the code right now.4) rc v3 talks to you, and issues traffic advisories to you and ai planes. in v4, rc talks to everyone5) we are looking into a number of pricing options. currently we handle the shipping (anywhere in the world) as part of the price. we may split that out. we're looking at possibly offering additional methods of shipment (fedex, 2-day air, etc). but this hasn't been finalized, so i don't want to commit to anything.typically, the upgrades are pretty much as you described.maybe the best thing for you to do is wait. i don't want you ######. at least download the manual, and read it a couple of times before v4 is ready to ship.jd JD Read my blog
August 28, 200421 yr Thanks for the quick answer and the advice! I don't get ###### quickly, so you don't need to worry... ;) (although I am a little worried if I didn't #### YOU off with all my money talk...). I'll download the manual and give it some thought. I have to say it's great to see a dev participating so open and honestly and reacting so quickly in a forum like this (the advice NOT to buy something is rare!)! At least this took away my worries about ordering RC (v3 or v4) on cd from far, far away (and I understand now perfectly well why you only ship it on cd!). As I said: I don't know yet about v3, but you might already have won one more customer for v4! :)
