ATC Voices

Featured Replies

While flying in Colorado, I sometimes get an ATC'er with a British accent. I have nothing against the Brits but that is somewhat unrealistic. How can I limit the voices used by RC3.1 to those that may normally occur in a geographic region?

It's ironic you say you're over Colorado when you get one of the Brits since in R/L, we do have one contoller with a bit of a British accent.

I'll just have to find the bloody file and post it here mate!

well, the chap named Jophn Burgess is as close to a Brit as you can get. His ATC is in the Winwood/10 folder. I'll try to upload one of the wav files. I guess I'll have to zip the file to upload it.In any case, play any of the files in the windwood/10 folder for an earful of british like accent. The file named "loweredgear.wav" is faily long and you can detect the accent pretty good.

without john burgess, there would be centers in rc 3. and without his trig knowledge, there would be no conflict detection/resolution code.he'll be in denver for the avsim conference, come and meet him, get to know him. i can't think of a better place for john to be, at the conference, and controlling rc flights ;-)jd

You don't need to upload any files. I have all the source ones and you have all the ones I processed. IOW - I made tham.Take JD's offer and come meet John. He's one of the coolest guys you'll ever know. Like JD said, without him we would have no centers and poor AI avoidance.

Are there not ATCs here in the states with somewhat "foreign" accents. Are there not ATCs abroad with "American(if there is such a description) accents? JD and team have made the program as real to life in that respect haven't they. GLBatRIC

As I said before, I don't have anything against the Brits. However, it startled me the first time I heard the accent. I have copied the entire folder and saved it under a different name (Brit). I replaced the wav files with one of the other sets with an "American" accent. If you are in the South, you expect to hear a southern accent; in the North a northern accent, etc. Just my personal observation. When I am flying on commercial airlines, some allow you to listen at ATC. The controllers generally have an accent relative to the area you are flying OR a non-descript accent. I have rarely heard a "foreign" accent.I will use the "Brit" file when I fly in Europe (England) for more realism. This is no big deal so let's not blow this out of proportion please...:-bang

In version 4 you'll be able to quickly enable/disable any of the voice sets when you start RC. This info will be saved from session to session until you elect to change it. Neat! ;-)Best, Rob
