Crossing Restrictions

Featured Replies

I have a question about crossing restrictions.I'm descending from altitude to 10,000 ft as instructed by ATC. Sometime during that descent, ATC instructs me to (for example) "Turn to heading 315 upon reaching 10,000 ft." That instruction comes when I'm around 13,000 ft or so. Doesn't that mean that when I reach 10,000ft, I then turn to heading 315? Because ATC comes back and tells me, way before I get to 10,000ft, that I was instructed to turn to 315, as though my altitude was irrelevant. Then, at the flight's end, the guy at the Flight Critique scolds me.I suppose I need to change heading immediately, but that was not the instruction. Is it me, or is it RC?Thanks, keith

you missed your crossing restriction (10000 ft @ 40 miles from the arrival airport, OR 10000 ft @ 30 miles from where you were told to descend to 10000)since you missed it, the controller is turning you, to keep you out of approach airspace.the clearance is to turn to 315, upon reaching 10000 go on in (turn towards the arrival airport). not. turn 315 when you reach 10000jd

JD,Thanks for that info. Maybe that'll keep the virtual FAA off my back!As a matter of detail, I'm pretty sure I did not miss the 10000 ft @ 40 miles. I usually fly the PMDG 737, and the nav display did not indicate that. I'll pay closer attention next time, though, and recheck.keith
