KMHT controller sounds more like EGCC controller

Featured Replies

After installing all the updates and reading the manual, and many of the previous posts on this forum, I just loaded RC v3.1, and decided to take a short trip from KFIT to KMHT to shoot the rwy 06 ILS. I got in the air and contacted approach, but the Boston approach controller sounded more like he's from jolly old England (with a thick British accent) than any controller here in snowy New England. I know that many of our British friends have suffered with FS controllers that have US accents, but I figured that the opposite wouldn't be true in RC. :-) Have I mis-configured something or is it just luck what accent the controller has and can it be configured, so that controllers at KMHT don't sound like those at EGCC? Thanks for your help.-Neil

Is this normal? I'm glad I decided to grab v3.1 and I'm looking forward to v4 when you guys have it finished and tested. I'm really enjoying the fact that I can get vectors for an approach without feeling like the captain of a WWII freighter trying to keep clear of a submarine. :D

No, you haven't mis-configured anything and yes, it's perfectly normal in RC3. The controller and pilot voices are (mostly) recorded by the RC beta team members and since it's an international team and you're just as likely to find an American controlling at EGCC as you are a Brit at KMHT.RC v4 makes it easy for you to be as xenophobic as you want by providing a simple interface to allow you to chose which controller and pilot voices you want to use. It's also possible to do this in RC3 but you have to do it manually. The controller voices are kept in the "winwood" directory in folders numbered from '2' sequentially upward - the upper limit depends on how many extra voice sets you've downloaded but it's probably around 12 or 13. Listen to a *.wav file from each of these folders and rename the folder(s) that contain the voice(s) you don't want to use. You may need to renumber (rename) some of the remaining controller folders so that the numbers run sequentially from 2 upward - if I remember correctly, RC3 stops looking for more controller folders when it finds a gap in the number sequence. The basic procedure is the same for removing pilot voices.Pete
