Still not sure what RC is about

Featured Replies

I've visited and read the web site and gone through this forum and I've sort of got an idea what RC does but I'm still really not quite sure.My first question really relates to how (if at all) RC interacts with AI. Now I've read threads that say there's not a problem, and others where atc interacts to such an extent that you re told to follow a particular ai aircraft on the ground etc, but does RC do anything with AI at all - ie control it etc. Would I hear the AI aircraft ahead of me being cleared for take-off?There's also been mention made of canned chatter - what's that all about please? Finally (sorry to be a pain) but how configurable is RC - can I change transition altitude from the US standard for example? Will it give me presssure settings in millibars?Hope you can give me some idea.I've read several posts asking for a video of what RC can do but there's no sign of such an animal. Perhaps the creation of such a thing might stem the flow of questions like mine. Thanks

Hi there,Good questions :-)The soon to be released v4 has the features you are asking about, they were far more limited, or didn't exist, in v3.So as far as v4 is concerned:1. On the ground you will hear the approproate instructions being given to the ai at an airport. When you are given a clearance to taxi to the runway if there is a plane near you which is taxiing to the same runway you will be instructed to follow him.If you are in a queue for takeoff you will hear the planes in front of you receiving their clearances.2. In the air RC will work 'in the background' to try and keep other ai clear of you, especially once you are on final.3. At all phases of the flight the RC controllers will interact with the other ai around you. However you also have the option to play 'canned chatter'. This is pre-recorded real atc (if available) for the area of the world you are flying in. This is the same as we had in v3. You can use your own prerecorded chatter if you wish. Given the interaction with the ai around you I've found I hardly ever use canned chatter now with v4.4. In the States you cannot change the TA, that's the way it is real world I'm told. In other areas RC has a database of TA's for most airports in the world (which you can amend on the user interface if you wish). The TL is calculated according to the local pressure (which is given in HPa/mb outside US airspace). So TA/TL is realistically applied throughout the world.5. A video is hopefully in the pipeline. All the best,John
