Installation Problem

Featured Replies

I really need some help. I just received RCV4, and I installed it according to your instructions. When I try to run the program to get the key the following happens. A windows installer box pops up and says "Preparing to Install". After a moment, I get a box that says " The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable". The box goes on requesting that I direct it to the folder containing the PatchPackage.msp file. I have run a search of my computer, and there is no such file. When I looked up the file on the internet, the description I get is that it has something to do with patching a program. I had this problem with version 3 also. I am really frustrated that I have bought two versions of this product, and they don't work. Can anyone help?

you never got v3 to work? i've heard of this happening before, and the cause was another program that was installed, or attempted to be installed, that never quite worked/finished right.can you logon to your windows with a different account, maybe administrator, and see if it will work?the last person that had a similar problem, it kept trying to load some other program, i forget the name. he found it in add/remove programs, removed it, and rc installed fine.let us know how it goes. there isn't really anything special about the install program. and it's worked, up until this point perfectly, with the exception of the two people i mentioned.jd

I tried logging in under a different account. No luck. Same thing happening. I looked in the add/remove programs, but if it is another program, I don't have a clue what it could be.

do you have another machine that you can install it on? there's something messed up on the machine you're trying to install it on. if you have another machine, maybe on the same network, install it there.then copy the rcv4 directory from one machine to the otherthen copy fsuipc.dll to the fsmodules directorycopy advdisp.dll to the fsmodules directorycopy the makerwys.exe to the fs directorythen you should be able to send away for your key, and be on your way.jd

I will give that a try, but all those files are already installed on my computer. The problem is when I try to run the program itself for the first time. Should the windows installer even be trying to run at that point?

No luck. I put the program on my son's computer, and it seems to work fine. Then I transfered the program to my computer via disk and the same thing happens when I try to run the program. The windows installer screen appears, and I get the same message.

GOOD NEWS! I think I have solved the mystery. I found a program on the windows site called windows installer cleanup. When I ran the program, it listed all the programs I have which were installed using that program. RCV4 was not listed, but one program that was listed is a schedule for Continental Airlines. I began trying to run the programs listed, and the airline schedule gave me the same problem I was having with RCV4. I could not even delete the schedule without getting this error.I ran the cleanup program again, and told it to cleanup the Continental program (which basicly deletes the program)and, BINGO, RCV4 works. I have sent for the registration key, and when it gets here, we shall see if the rest of the program works.I will let you know if everything is OK when the key arrives. Thank you for your help and the very quick response to my problem.D
