January 27, 200620 yr I've noticed that in airfields, there is MUCH more action going on in the airport than RC4 seems to be handling. I understand the general way to get rid of FS ATC is to turn off the sound for it, which is great for simplifying it in the context of getting the sound out of my ears, but I wonder if RC is actually controlling the AI planes, and how does it account for it when placing the user's plane in a holding pattern due to traffic at a destination airport, and do the AI planes actually do what RC tells them to...For that matter, one enhancement I'd like to see in RC is realistic ground traffic management. Can that be worked in at some point, hopefully before v5 comes out?
January 27, 200620 yr Commercial Member there are only two places where rc is controlling ai on the ground. all other times, i'm simply detecting when the ai are changing statuses, and saying the appropriate thing to them.the two times i do something to them on the ground, is when the ai is at the hold short line, i freeze them, tell them to taxi into position and hold, and un freeze them, and they taxi into position and hold (on their own, i'm not making them move).the other place is when they are cleared for takeoff. i freeze them, clear them, and unfreeze themwhy do you think rc can't handle the ai you have? what are the symptoms.ground traffic management as you call it, won't be in 4.01 or 4.1jd JD Read my blog
January 27, 200620 yr >I've noticed that in airfields, there is MUCH more action>going on in the airport than RC4 seems to be handling. RC4 'talks' to a lot of traffic on the ground. You will hear CLR, GND and TWR communication with AI as they conduct ground movements.RC4 manages (viz. handles) ground AI traffic only in the sense that it freezes/unfreezes AI that are in the proximity of the runway you are departing or landing>understand the general way to get rid of FS ATC is to turn off>the sound for it, which is great for simplifying it in the>context of getting the sound out of my ears, but I wonder if>RC is actually controlling the AI planes, Other than above, there is no control of AI on the ground.>and how does it>account for it when placing the user's plane in a holding>pattern due to traffic at a destination airport, RC4 initiates holding for weather conditions. With the upcoming release of FSX and the unknown changes and new capabilities that it will provide, it is not anticipated that ground traffic movement will be addressed in the v4.x series of Radar Contact.-michael
January 27, 200620 yr Is in normal for RC4 to freeze AI aircraft in your vicinity in the air if it conflicts with the airborne user plane. I have noticed aircraft that have been called out by RC4 to spot at 2 o'clock etc are frozen at 4 or 6 kts in the sky. Is this how RC 4 handles area traffic?
January 29, 200620 yr Hi Guys,I am a previous RC3 user but new to RC4. I have been trying it out for the last couple days. I have been having a blast and am very impressed in general. I have noticed some problems with handling of AI traffic. I'm not sure what RC is supposed to do but here are a couple of examples of what I experienced. Ready for departure, I got clearance for the active runway. I requested a different one, a longer one, more lined up with the wind. Got clearance to taxi to my requested rwy. Got clearance to take off but I noticed that there were a string of pearls landing on the opposite end of the runway and one holding short on the ground. I waited for the arrivals to land then I proceeded to takeoff. No problems enroute. Then when on final at my destination, I heard the FS ATC telling an aircraft to vacate the runway repeatedly. He finally did and was told to contact ground. There was another aircraft holding short of my runway and he was given clearance to takeoff while I was still on a one mile final! I had to extend my touchdown point to land over him (to avoid a lengthy go around). In both of these cases there was no interaction from RC. All the commands were coming from the FS ATC, but RC was quiet about the hazards too.Let me know if there is anything to be done about this, or to improve my chances to avoid situatiuons like these. Thanks,Dave Logan
January 29, 200620 yr Commercial Member in v4, i choose runways based on what the ai are doing, instead of the way in v3, which was based on equipment (ils), length, wind, etc.i'm doing that specifically for the reason you mentioned, a string of ai landing on the same runway, opposite you. i can't control what runway the ai are deciding to land on. they like to land with the wind on their tail. which is perfect for you taking off in that direction, but....somewhere in the manual it says, if you request a different runway than ground gives you, you do so at your own risk.on the other end, if an ai has already started the takeoff sequence, in other words, started to taxi into position and hold, i have to let him try to take off. otherwise i'll freeze him on the runway, guaranteeing you a go around. at least you have a 50-50 chance of landing.jd JD Read my blog
January 29, 200620 yr Thanks JD,That makes sense. I don't suppose the departing aircraft can be frozen based on the arriving pilots distance from the threshold, say on a three mile final or closer? What about RC giving a traffic advisory such as "departing traffic"?Thanks again,Dave
January 29, 200620 yr Commercial Member go around is your traffic advisory ;-)there is a program, i think it is fs9configurator or something like that, where you can speed up the ai, so they aren't so pokey. this actually might help these situations.i forget when i freeze them, but it's a fair distance, i thoughtjd JD Read my blog
