Flight Plan Software

Featured Replies

This is a bit off topic but would like some advice. Trying to learn FSX and love it so far, have not tried RC with it yet but this week I'll give it a shot. But my question is what do you all recommend for developing the flight plans ... I use to use FSNavigator and really liked it but it doesn't work with FSX and will be awhile before they update it. Any suggestions are very welcome. Thanks,John

I do not use FSX but FS Build version 2.3 supports both FS9 and FSX. It is strictly a path and fuel planner, runs stand-alone or with Active Sky running to include winds in your fuel planning. It comes with several aircraft profiles but you can edit those to make your own. Airac updates when processed are available from their download site at no charge. It does have a learning curve and the tutorials (on the web site) in some parts are dated but you can get the job done.If you wish to use real world plans it has a route window that you can type or paste from such sites a www.flightaware.com. You might have to edit in that window a number reference to a sid or star name.In the route window you can type your plan using standard waypoint and airway designations or try an autoroute function. Besides navaids, airports, and intersection it maintains an airways database. Upon export the airways are converted to waypoints as are sids and stars.Exports are to FS9, FSX, and several FMC formats such as used by PMDG.Support is via its own web site forum. It is not a huge download and is done via simmarket.www.fsbuild.com for a look at the documentation and forum link.

Thanks Ron,I did see that software and it does look like it will get the job done. I was hoping that FSNavigator would come on-line sooner but not till mid year ... So it looks like FSBuild it will be. If you are interested I'll let you know how it works with FSX ... one more question if you don't mind .... Does FSBuild look at the database of you flight sim to build it's data .... what I mean by that is some addon scenery adds airfields that are not in the default database, so I am wondering if FSBuild would have those "new" airports ... Thanks again for the quick response Ron,John

No, it does not build as I recall from the FS database. I'm not where I can look at that now. Chances are any new scenery airports are in the latest database.Customized AIRACS are released by the author from his web site. I think the tutorials or FAQ addresses that issue. As I recall the database files are text editable as are the SID STAR files.

Thanks again Ron ... No big deal, yes I think somewhere I read that it was text based and that you can edit it ... Also from what I can tell their tech support is very good ... I get it tonight and give it a try. Thanks,John
