March 5, 200719 yr Hello, I fly with RC4 since some weeks now. I apreciate a lot the big enhancement this program brings in comparison with the default ATC.I just have 3 issues I could not solve so far:1) AI ttraffic.Like for some other users, the I traffic is absolutely "transparent" to RC4. I have read that this issue is a bit mysterious. I just bring some precision which hopefully might help.NB: I have FSUIPC 3.71 registered- If I am in position at departure runway, I will get the "line up and wait even if another plane is on short final below DH...- If a plane is lined up ready for take off, I will also be cleared to line upIn both situations I never hear radio exchang between tower and the other planes. but AS SOON AS I AM AIRBORNE, then I get all TCAS warnings and radio exchanges. It is the same when flying in network with others pilots having RC4, I hear TCAS and Radio between them and control but JUST WHEN FLYING NEVER ON GROUND.2) jerked animationI have some performances hit on display when using RC4, not loss of fps but a kind of jerked animation, the disply get froozen for a very short blink, perhapd 0,1sec, every more or less 10 seconds.RC4 is currently installed on the same drive (C:) than FS2004- Would it help if I re-install on another drive ?- If so, shall I need a new registration code to re-activate ?3) Text display: I cannot close the transparent text display fror screenies, it will pops up alomost immediately neither I can put it on the second screen. it is the same closing with the upper right cross or using the shortcut.Kind regards to all your team fromPierre
March 5, 200719 yr A couple of quick checks:Go to the FSUIPC link pinned in one of the first threads to update to 3.73. Your registration will stick.Insure in your general options interact with AI is checked. Please post your PC specs including your version of Windows and FS version you are using. Be sure you are using a separate video and audio card for better performance. When you get stuttering look at your disk indicator to see if their is activity. Are you using scenery directly on your HD (not CD)? Are you using on-line weather?Have you shut down any unneeded services to free up RAM and CPU resources? You might want to check the hardware forum here on AVSIM. Something is causing your stutter every few seconds either scenery loading or some high priority process, or you are paging to disk because you do not have enough RAM.Hope this gives you some ideas.
March 5, 200719 yr Many thanks for these first tips RonSo, I downloaded the version 3.73.Off course for the test I did not have any traffic right on my way but noticed, I could hear now the traffic between ground controller and a plane which just landed. I will do the next try from a more crowdy airport.I found the solution about the text display, I don't use anymore the FSUIPC text display but the adventure text display I can undock and pudh on the second screen.Just remains the stuttering issue. Here are some specsWindows XP SP 2FS 2004 withpatch 9.11.5 gbAMD X2 4200ATI Saphir RADEON X1600 XT (Q995) the driver has been updated the 22 Frbruary 2007All scenries are on the diskI use ASV6 on line weather, FSNav and FsPassengers. For the test, I did not activate any of above at start. No stuttering at beginning but some 1000 feets before runway entry, when I was redirected from ground control to tower, stuttering began.DUring the flight, upon the task manager the memory in use was between 1 to 1.2 Gb and the processor between 35 and 45 %The disk indicator was indeed blinking by time but I could not establish a correlation with the stuttering.Anyway I can try to re-install on the D: drive to see. Do you know if I must then ask for a new registration key ?
March 6, 200719 yr Past experience of some users has resulted in a recommendation not to use a sound chip on your PC but a medium quality add-on sound card. Your RAM size looks good. They can be inexpensive. While your CPU use was low, perhaps the priority of the on-board audio rendering processes caused a slump in the other processes. After monitoring tower, was their more audio traffic that might have caused stuttering? As far as hearing AI traffic, remember you must be on the same frequency. When on ground you'll hear ground traffic and on tower flying traffic in the immediate area. If AI are in front of you in the take-off cue you should be hearing them when you are on tower getting their runway clearance and their response. In your options I advise turning off pre-recorded chatter and checking AI chatter which means RC will regenerate active AI communications in your selected voice sets.I would still investigate turning off unneeded processes particularly those that might periodically pole for problems. What do you use to generate AI traffic and what percent do you run AI at? Try turning it down to see if it has any effect. I do get a stutter on final when on close final at detailed busy airports as many ground AI come into view. I run traffic created by Ultimate Traffic 2 at 100%.I have a 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 and 1.25 GB RAM. With unneeded services turned off (I'm running XP SP1) with RC, AS6.5, and FS9.1 running, I rarely get a disk access except when RC is preparing the audio files for a command or response. If AI models are not in RAM yet, at whatever predetermined distance I may get a disk access as the AI model is loaded. The same applies to scenery objects.Other then the assembly of the audio files, RC does not load the CPU that much. You should also check that unless you are running a debugging log, that debugging is not selected when you START RC.Check in the general and hardware forums here searching on stutters and stuttering to see if you can spot any possible solutions.
March 9, 200719 yr Thanks RonI just use the default AI traffic comming out from FS2004 (yest, with these uggly planes in disneyland colors ;) ).I will not go changing my audio hardware for now because.. it costs ;) and could not so far find a link between the sounds effects and the moment when stuttering occures... For examples I don't get this with FsP crew anoucements or GPWS warnings. Then I will see how it goes when RC4 is installed on a differnt drive.
March 10, 200719 yr Try defragmenting your hard drive. That can help a ton, especially if you have a lot of things installed and scattered fragments. Under the display options make sure FPS is set to unlimited. I don't think installing RC on a separate drive will make much of a difference. I have an AMD X2 4400 with 2GB of ram and I run Norton Systemworks in the background without any hit. I also run ASV 6.5. The only other things I can think of are maybe your CPU or chipset is running to hot with all of those programs running or your RAM. Do you have good ram or cheap house-brand ram. I use CORSAIR XMS. Monitor the CPU and chipset temps while running the programs. I have a ton of add-ons, and even while running ASV 6.5, FS2004, Ultimate Traffic, RC4, and Norton in the background, I still never fall below 40-45fps. In cruise I'm easily at 60fps.
