FS X and RC 4: AI aircraft crashing into me from behind on runway 18 at EDDF despite takeoff clearance

Featured Replies

I recently experienced an AI aircraft crashing into me from behind on runway at EDDF:(Please see http://www.vacc-sag.org/download/chart.php...5414812b61b2733 for the chart to follow the description of events below).I was parked in the Terminal 2 area with a medium-sized jet so EDDF requires me to taxi to runway 18 via taxiways B B-EAST S to take off on runway 18 from take off point S. This is standard taxi procedure at EDDF.So I obtained taxi clearance to taxi to and hold short of runway 18 and to runway 18 via taxiways B B-EAST S. Whilst taxiing I noticed an AI aircraft taxiing on taxiway N, which also leads to runway 18. At the intersection of taxiways K and S I was requested to contact tower. I switched to the tower frequency and continued taxiing and then held short.I was then cleared to taxi into position and finally cleared for takeoff and started running through the takeoff checklist. I then noticed that the AI aircraft taxied on to runway 18 as well and started to take off.Needless to say, the AI aircraft crashed into me from behind. How could this happen? I had RC 4 configured to interact with AI (which I use as default). However, I did not hear RC communicating with that particular AI aircraft and/or clearing the aircraft for takeoff but I did hear RC communicating with other AI aircraft.Regards,Wolfgang

i v4 there is no ground control of the ai, other than to talk to them at the hold short line, tell them to taxi into position and hold, which they do, freeze them, clear them for take off, and then let them take offi also freeze ai when you are about to land or takeoff, so they don't taxi onto, or across your runwayin v5, i'm making significant progress in controlling what ai are doing on the ground, giveing way to you as you taxi, and then letting them follow you.but not in v4.but for some strange reason, which i have never understood, i have never had an ai collide with me on the ground. many others have had the same experience. on the other hand, many people tell me how the ai are always crashing into them. i don't know the answer to that. my guess, they would have hit you whether rc was running or not.jd

Thanks for your reply.I will try to reproduce it so see analyse the exact AI behaviour. If my memory serves me correct, the AI aircraft arrived at the holding point at taxiway N shortly *after* I had arrived at the holding point at taxiway S.So are you saying that the AI aircraft might not have been interacting with RC at all? Also, I changed the tower, ground and departure frequencies in RC as EDDF uses different frequencies depending on takeoff runway, location of apron and departure direction. Would that have caused any issues?Regards,Wolfgang

it's really hard to sayin v4, i'm not looking for ground conflicts, nor am i trying to prevent colisionsi don't know what freq changes would do. that might be something to leave alone, and see if the problem persistsjd

Hello jd,I just want to let you know that I did not see this problem occurring again after I updated FSUIPC to the version that fixed the AI traffic detection bug for AI traffic on the ground. It must have happened because RC was not aware of the AI traffic to begin with as FSUIPC did not report it correctly.Regards,Wolfgang
