August 3, 200718 yr Everytime i want to rebuild the scenery, a box pops up and ask me if it's a Widefs installation. (Have no clue what that is). However - i say "No" and then have to define the path manually to the library where i have my simulator. Before the re-installation, i just had to press the button and then the update started. Can't see any .ini file or anything where i can define the path. How can i get back to normal?CheersLars Kl
August 3, 200718 yr Nice to see your haven't killed yourself on your bike. I've been way too busy to visit FSVC's new free-for-all killer forum. :)The box pops up in newer versions to accommodate people using networked computers with RC on one and FS on another. WideFS is Pete Dowson's supported FS communication over networked machines. If you only are using one pc, then the path to your FS folder should already be defined in your RC Options screen for setup and saved so you will not be asked every time. A similar path definition is required for your personal Windows folder where FS files your flight plans.I do not run version 4.3 but if you have a specific button to define your FS path use that. When you click OK that path will be saved. Your FS Path you navigate to in the window that will open such as by going down the tree C: - Program Files - Microsoft Games - Flight Simulator 9 and click OK. For your flight plans set up your path by navigating C: - Documents and Settings - Lars Kluver - My Documents - Flight Simulator Files and click OK. These setup buttons may not appear until you press a yellow down arrow on the lower left of your RC screen. As I stated, I don't have this version but the navigation idea is the same.(You are shaming me into updating from 4.2 but that is only necessary if using FSX. 4.3 will handle both. Have you updated, Lars?. What RC and FS versions are you running. If so you need to install FSUIPC 4 for FSX and follow the support forum notes above for an FSX install. You will not need to register FSUIPC 4. We need to know a bit more so specific instructions can be given.)Hope you are doing well and riding the Danish country roads.
August 4, 200718 yr Hello Ron - hehe, no, i'm still around. I'm not that easy to get rid of.. :)) Well - it is rather seldom i visit FSVC. Don't have that much time anymore, i'm afraid. That box ####### me off. Especially because i have to enter the path everytime i want to run an update. There's no option menu where you can enter anything - for some reason. Only way - if it's possible - will be to enter it manually into a file - but which file? (This is the REBUILD SCENERY DB - button. Have a feeling you mix it up with what i mention next). The path you mention in the end, is the .FLT/.WX path, which btw. also puzzles me. One can't just have a look (browse) and then cancle ones way out of it, without the path disappearing. Haven't seen that in other programs, where one have to alter it or delete it. As long as you keep your fingers away it works though! And then the "Load previously saved .RCD's. In old versions of RC i think i recall a button one could press to save a flight - but that button has gone.. It would be smart to have that, when you have the load-button!Yes, i have 4.3. Don't really know/remember why i got it, Ron - think it was the last time i had to re-format my PC. I can't really see any difference. Like 4.2 it still tells you to drive into position on the runway at takeoff 2 min. before you reach the runway. In old days you had to stop at the runway, before you were told to do that. :)) Guess it's more important to have 4.3 if you have FSX, which i don't. I use COF (FS9) and have no plans to change. All the time on money i have spend before on new versions every second year - all the searching, installing, updating shareware etc. etc. - not to mention the update one most likely will have to do when it comes to the computer. No - i have got enough. Use this version as long as i can - and if it's one day impossible, i'll dump the hobby. And finally - i wish they one day come up with another way where you can enter where to start from after a PC-crash. It's a nightmare to move RC to where you're flying. It most often happens just before landing. Microsofts ATC don't seem to have problems. Load the flight and it knows where you are. The latest with RC is, that you have either to start from the runway - or fly over it, to make the program get onwards - and until you have reached the point where you are, you have to go through all the communication of climb to this and fly in that direction - and listening to all the nagging, because you don't do that, as you are somewhere else. I usually now drop RC when it happens and switch to Microsofts. It's better than nothing - but not really satisfying. These problems i run into when FS freezes or crashes, so i don't have the option of saving anything in RC. (I have this small utillity program installed which saves where i am during flight every 5 min., so i can place the aircraft close to the point i had reached). Not riding that much on the roads, Ron - sold the bike 2 years ago. It's rather an expensive hobby over here with all the bloody taxes they put on everything. I'm afraid i live in the wrong country for that hobby. Had i been living in the US!!!! But no doubt that i enjoyed it as long as it lasted! :) Have a dream of visiting US and then renting a bike, driving down route 66.. :)Anyway - i love Radar Contact - couldn't be without it, but those thing i mention - if something were done to them, it would be even better. And it also give me some good laughs!! The way some pronounce some of the european cities - it's hillarous!! :)))CheersLars
August 4, 200718 yr The default key to save a flight as an .rcd is ";". Of course it only works with aircraft that stick to FS panel standards.Once set your paths should stick. Of course you need the flt/wxr path because that's where the rcd's go.I'll install 4.3 so I can see what you are talking about. Give me a couple of days.Once you get your flt/wxr path set and sticky go to:http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.htmland download AutoSave 1.501 in the FS2004 section. Read the instructions in the .zip txt file. Put autosave.dll in your FS9/modules folder. By default it will save an .rcd file every minute (in your specified flt/wxr folder) and keep the last 10 files. You can change this if you wish by editing its .ini. See the install notes. This way you can start a flight by noting the system time of your crash and subtracting a few minutes from it. The .rcd files are named autosave with the date and time of each save in the name.
August 4, 200718 yr I've installed 4.3 so I can see what you are talking about. You are right in that the FS9 path for a scenedry rebuild must be put in each time. Here is a workaround to save typing it each time. Open a blank file in notepad. Type your path in there as previously described. Save that file as FS9path.txt and close notepad.. It will go into your My Documents folder. On your desktop open My Documents. Find the entry for FS9path.txt. Click ONCE on it to highlight it. Right click on it and drag it to your desktop. When you let go of the mouse button the file options box will open. Left click on create shortcut here. Each time you need the FS9 path click on that shortcut and the file will open in notepad. Highlight the path string and hit ctrl-c to copy it into the clipboard. Click in the path dialog window that opens with a scenery rebuild to set the cursor there. Hit ctrl-v to paste that line in there. This saves typing that long string each time with just a little mouse work once you are familiar with it.Once you get your flt/wxr path set and sticky (it will show in the RC Information box on the lower left) go to:http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.htmland download AutoSave 1.501 in the FS2004 section. When you need to load the .rcd just use the Load .rcd button on the upper right of the RC window. That should get you what you need.Any .rcd's from previous versions will not be compatible in most cases.Be patient and get this working and you can stick with 4.3.While your on Pete's page download FSUIPC 3.75 and Makerwys 4.12 frfom there. Extract FSUIPC.dll into your FS9/modules folder after renaming your current one fsuipc.dlh to keep it as a backup. Extract the new makerwys.exe into your FS9 folder overwriting the one in there. You should now be current with these.
