Starting flight and RC in air?

Featured Replies

Is it possible to start a flight and RC in the air? I would like to practice approaches into various airports, and don't want the departure/enroute phase - I would like to set the sim up with the plane in cruise at 8,000 feet, 15 miles out, heavy weather, and then let RC do its stuff.Possible?

read the manual, especially the tutorials. they all tell you how to save flights in the air, and restart them from where you saved themjd

OK Jd - I will. I scoured through the FAQ before posting, but did not see anything relevant. I was aware you could save flights - and I can see that may be an (awkward) work around - basically I am talking about air filing. Related, but not exactly the same thing. I would like to pick a spot - near an airport area that I have not been to (no pre-existing flight), set the plane in the air, download weather and then start RC and execute the STAR. Back up and try a different approach. Back it up and choose a different runway - etc etc. From what I understand, I would have to initiate 3 different flights from somewhere else, fly the plane to that spot, save it and then I can 'open it in progress'. Not quite what I am looking for - I want to cut out the departure and enroute portions of the flights entirely.Ok, off to RTFM ;-)

sorry, you can start in the air cold, and have rc pick up as if it had directed to where you are.the best way to do that, is to make your flight, and save it, where you want to come back to, time and time againjd

Ok, I tried the following:Launched FS2004, loaded a flight plan from CXYX to PAJN, started the sim. Went to the Map screen, and positioned the airplane about 50 miles out of PAJN, at 8000 feet, unpaused the sim, and got the plane stabilized and ready. Paused the sim.Launched RC, loaded that flight plan, started it.Back in the sim, RC had re-positioned me to CYXY. Went back to the map, re-positioned myself back towards Juneau. RC then gave me 'clearance' as if I was on the ground in CYXY, and directed me to the departure runway, but then because I was nowhere near it, failed to proceed from there. So, I am back to square one - is there a way to skip the departure and enroute portions of a flight, other than flying them and then saving at a designated point? That will serve as a workaround, but I would like to be able to find an interesting approach, set up the sim and fly it, without being forced to take off and fly an entire flight.Does this make any sense?

you have to fly the .pln to where you want to save.iow, you have to talk to clearance, then to ground, then to tower, you have to take off, you might want to talk to departure.then save the flight.you can then pick up that flight to that destination at that point, any time in the future.you can't position the plane in the air when you want it, and start rc. jd
